The congress took place over 3 days, December 25, 26 and 27, to focus on discussing and setting out specific targets and tasks for the farmers' movement and the Vietnam Farmers' Union in the next 5 years.
Attending this congress were 995 official delegates, who were typical cadres and farmer members, representing the will, aspirations and intelligence of more than 10 million cadres and farmer members nationwide.
At the congress, delegates will focus on discussing and giving opinions on the draft important documents of the congress, including: Political Report of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, 7th tenure, submitted to the congress, draft Review Report of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, 7th tenure, and draft Charter of the Vietnam Farmers' Union (supplemented and amended).
Regarding personnel organization, it is expected that the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, term VIII (2023-2028), will have 119 members. Of which, the congress will elect 33 members from the Central Association; 63 from provinces and cities; 6 from central ministries and branches; 7 from the business sector and associations...
The congress elected the Presidium to run the congress, the Secretariat, the Delegate Qualification Examination Committee; reported the results of the delegate qualification examination, and approved the working program and working regulations of the congress.

Speaking at the opening of the Congress, Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, said: The peasantry and the Vietnam Farmers' Union are very happy and excited to receive Resolution No. 46-NQ/TW dated December 20, 2023 of the Politburo on innovation and improving the quality of activities of the Vietnam Farmers' Union to meet the requirements of revolutionary tasks in the new period, right on the occasion of the solemn opening of the 8th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union. This is a particularly important political event for the Vietnam Farmers' Union; at the same time, it is also the responsibility of the Vietnam Farmers' Union at all levels to thoroughly grasp, concretize, and implement the Resolution so that it can be put into practice quickly and effectively.

According to the report of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, farmers are a large force in society, accounting for more than 1/3 of the country's population and 49.17% of rural households with more than 9.1 million farming households. The peasant class always believes in the leadership of the Party and the policies of the State, and has better promoted its role as the subject in developing agriculture and rural economy, especially in building new rural areas. At the same time, farmers have actively participated in restructuring agriculture, promoting the role of household economy, developing farm economy, participating in cooperation, association, cooperative groups, and large-scale production cooperatives. Gradually taking the lead in rural movements according to the motto "people know, people discuss, people do, people inspect, people supervise, people benefit", preserving national cultural identity, maintaining political security, ensuring social order and safety. Farmers' qualifications are increasingly improved; their lives, incomes and employment are constantly improved; their position and role are affirmed and promoted in the process of national development and innovation.

The movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" has become the focus of economic and social life in rural areas; promoting the initiative and creativity of members and farmers participating in restructuring the agricultural sector, transforming the structure of crops and livestock, "consolidating land and exchanging plots" to create concentrated production areas, linked fields, applying scientific and technical advances, high technology in production, processing, consumption, improving productivity, quality, value of agricultural products, contributing to the development of agricultural production, shifting the economic structure, and rural labor structure.
Through the movement, more and more effective economic models have emerged, many farmers have achieved the title of good farmers and businessmen at all levels, with high incomes; every year, on average, over 6.2 million households register (reaching 104.04% of the target of the 7th Congress), of which more than 3.6 million households have achieved the title of good farmers and businessmen at all levels, exceeding 6.74% of the target of the 7th Congress.

Many localities have created and diversified models of gathering and attracting movement development such as establishing "Club of good farmers and businessmen", "Club of billionaire farmers", "Club of farmers developing economy"... with tens of thousands of good farmers and businessmen at all levels participating, contributing to promoting the movement in the locality. The Association at all levels has done a good job of propaganda and mobilization, achieving the targets of the 7th Congress on the number of registered agricultural and food production and business households, committing to ensure food safety and hygiene and the number of recognized member households...
*Before the first working day (December 25), delegates visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and offered incense to commemorate heroes and martyrs at Bac Son Memorial (Ba Dinh - Hanoi).
