Vietnam Association of the Elderly received the First Class Labor Medal (2nd time)

Comrade Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front attended and delivered a speech. Attending the ceremony were Comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh, former member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly; leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Government; and central ministries and branches.

In his welcoming speech, comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh, President of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, emphasized: The elderly are the backbone of the nation and an important political force of the Vietnamese revolution.

The success of the country's renovation over the past 40 years has been due to the important contributions of the elderly, especially the leaders and former leaders of the Party and State. The Vietnam Association of the Elderly is truly a political support to protect the Party's renovation policy, upholding the spirit of "old age, high ambition".

Currently, there are more than 7 million elderly people nationwide who are entrepreneurs, businesses, owners of production and business establishments, participating in economic development, making effective and practical contributions to the country's development, creating jobs for about 9 million elderly people and the community; many elderly people are Labor Heroes in the renovation period; nearly 1 million people directly participate in building the grassroots political system; thousands of elderly people are elite intellectuals in research, training, holding high positions in Party and State agencies...

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, on behalf of the Party, State and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, acknowledged and commended the great contributions of the Vietnam Association of Young Pioneers over the past time.

Comrade Do Van Chien emphasized: On June 6, 1941, Ho Chi Minh issued a "Call for solidarity for all the elderly". He wrote: "The responsibility of our elderly for the country's mission is truly great. The prosperous country is built by the elderly. The country exists thanks to the help of the elderly. When the country is lost, the elderly save it. When the country collapses, the elderly support it". Ho Chi Minh's call is the summary of the heroic historical tradition forged through thousands of years of building and defending the country of the nation, the elderly are always firmly the intellectual and spiritual support for all social classes to follow.

Promoting the tradition of the Association of the Elderly, the key task in the coming time, comrade Do Van Chien requested to step up propaganda work, create consensus among cadres and members on the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, especially the current organizational reforms; making the Vietnam Association of the Elderly truly a bridge between the People and the Party and the State.

The Association of the Elderly at all levels closely follows the practical situation of the country's revolution and local realities in the context of the Party and State directing the organization and apparatus arrangement from the central to local levels in the direction of streamlining, effectiveness and efficiency to perfect the organization and apparatus of the Association at all levels, improve the quality and efficiency of the Association's activities in the new period, making each level of the Association an important link in the role of a social organization representing the elderly in Vietnam. Therefore, cadres, members and the elderly at all levels and localities actively participate in building the Party and the political system to become increasingly clean and strong.

“The Elderly Association at all levels must be at the core of the fight against the false and distorted arguments of hostile forces and political opportunists. The Association needs to participate with high responsibility, contribute its intelligence and enthusiasm to giving opinions on amending the Constitution and laws under the direction of the National Assembly; especially giving opinions on the draft Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress,” Comrade Do Van Chien emphasized.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal (2nd time) from the President. This is a noble award of the Party and State to recognize the contributions of the Vietnamese elderly in building and defending the Fatherland.

* Regarding the activities of the Association of the Elderly in Tra Vinh province, according to comrade Pham Thi Thanh Phuong, Vice President of the Association of the Elderly in Tra Vinh province: The Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly in Tra Vinh province was established on August 27, 1998. After nearly 27 years of operation, always receiving the attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, the coordination and support of sectors and levels, the efforts of cadres, members and all classes of the elderly, the work of the Association of the Elderly in the province has achieved many outstanding results. By the end of May 2025, the whole province had 116,897 members/154,620 elderly people, reaching 75.6% of the total number of elderly people. Well implemented care and social protection regimes for the elderly with 67,874 elderly people receiving monthly social allowances and being granted health insurance cards. The work of caring for the material and spiritual life and health care of the elderly is well coordinated.
