On the administrative map of Vietnam, Thai Nguyen province resembles a crossroads between the midland and mountainous regions and the provinces of the Northern Delta. Thai Nguyen possesses an inexhaustible resource for tourism development: over 1,000 historical and cultural relics; over 550 intangible cultural heritage sites... It is an "open-air gold mine," and the more it is exploited, the more abundant the reserves become.

Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, enthusiastically stated: Through tourism activities, the unique cultural beauty in the spiritual life of the people and the historical and cultural relics of the localities are passed down, preserved, and have enduring vitality over time.

The unique cultural beauty in the spiritual life of the ethnic minorities and the historical and cultural relics have become driving forces attracting domestic and international tourists to Thai Nguyen. For example, the Tham Roc puppet show of the Tay people in Dinh Hoa; the Soong Co singing of the San Diu people (Dong Hy); the Tac Xinh dance of the San Chay people (Phu Luong); the coming-of-age ceremony of the Dao people (Dai Tu)... captivate the hearts of visitors.

Then, traditional craft villages such as the handicraft village (Phu Binh), the Bo Dau sticky rice cake village (Phu Luong), and the palm mat weaving village (Dinh Hoa)... also "awakened" to welcome tourists.

In particular, from 2011 to the present, Thai Nguyen province has organized four tea festivals, becoming the capital of fine tea, with tea embodying the profound cultural essence of a land rich in revolutionary traditions and hospitality.

Linking for Breakthroughs

In 2024, Thai Nguyen province made significant breakthroughs in tourism development. This is vividly demonstrated by the fact that the province's tourism sector welcomed and served nearly 3.5 million visitors, an 18% increase compared to the plan and a 39.5% increase compared to 2023. Consequently, tourism revenue reached over 3,000 billion VND, a 24% increase compared to the plan and a more than 44% increase compared to 2023.

Many domestic and international tourists enjoy participating in experiences with tea farmers in the region.

Throughout the year, through organizing annual activities such as the "Through the Heritage Regions of Viet Bac" program; the opening of the tourism year; and organizing Famtrip and Presstrip delegations to introduce tourist areas and destinations, the Provincial Tourism Steering Committee coordinated with provinces and cities nationwide to organize workshops and conferences to promote tourism. This facilitated the signing of cooperation agreements for tourism development between the Thai Nguyen Tourism Association and nearly 20 tourism associations in the North, Central, and South regions of Vietnam.

The memorandum of understanding on tourism development cooperation between the associations focuses on training and improving human resources; developing tourism products; promoting, attracting investment in tourism development; and supporting each other in tourism development.

The cooperation agreement has opened a new direction for Thai Nguyen's tourism industry. The isolated approach to tourism has been broken, replaced by genuine cooperation and sharing, creating a new and strong foundation to jointly seek inter-provincial and inter-regional partners, linking within the service supply chain, and creating high-quality packages at attractive prices.

Notably, Thai Nguyen boasts a value chain of ecotourism products including the Phuong Hoang ecological tourism product line - the Mo Ga hamlet community tourism experience (Vo Nhai); the historical site of the 915th Youth Volunteer Company, 91st Team, Bac Thai - Duom Temple - the Dinh Hoa ATK Special National Monument; and experiential tourism in tea-growing regions.

In addition, tourism products such as cave exploration, community tourism, ecotourism, and resort tourism associated with the natural landscape and unique cultural identity of ethnic groups impress visitors.

Mr. Le Ngoc Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Deputy Head of the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee, enthusiastically stated: To make tourism a key economic sector, Thai Nguyen will continue to effectively exploit products reflecting local cultural identity; proactively connect tourist areas and destinations within the province with those of other provinces with which agreements have been reached, creating a tourism chain that brings the highest benefits to tourists.
