Cat Ba Island is a famous tourist area in Hai Phong City. In addition to the blue sea, white sand and picturesque Lan Ha Bay, the road from Cai Vieng ferry to Cat Ba town center is also a great place for a weekend trip.
To go from Cai Vieng ferry, the ferry terminal connecting Cat Ba island with Hai Phong city, visitors can take the coastal road or the cross-island road. Normally, tourists choose the coastal road when going and the cross-island road when returning. This is a suitable route to feel the change of scenery on this route.
The Cat Ba coastal route is part of the investment project to upgrade and expand the Cat Hai - Cat Ba cross-island route with a budget of more than 1,800 billion VND from Hai Phong City.
The route starts from Cai Vieng Ferry Terminal to Cat Ba Town (Cat Hai District, Hai Phong), with a total length of about 25km. This road with the blue sea on one side and mountains and forests on the other is named by tourists as “the most beautiful coastal road in the North”.
The newly paved road winds around the foot of the mountain, creating many bends and slopes like those in the Northwest, but much smoother and easier to walk on. Especially at this time, many types of wild flowers bloom brilliantly, giving off a sweet fragrance.
Meanwhile, the road across Cat Ba Island is a traditional road that has existed for a long time with a similar length to the coastal road. This road through mountains and forests gives visitors a sense of peace and closeness to nature. Foreign visitors often cycle and walk on this route. From early November to late December, the road across the island is covered with reed flowers. In March, the reed flowers are sparse but the lychee flowers are in full bloom and give off a cool fragrance.
Wandering from the coastal road to the cross-island road, visitors will clearly feel the change in scenery of the sea, islands, mountains and forests. All of these interesting experiences can be done in just 1 day.
