(NADS) - Recently, the book "Saigon - Cho Lon Urban Area before 1945 through archival documents" was honored to receive the Tran Van Giau Science Award in the field of history from Ho Chi Minh City. This is a worthy work by a group of authors from the Department of State Records and Archives - National Archives Center II, published by Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House in 2023.
The book is 552 pages thick, divided into two main parts: "Saigon - Gia Dinh Area: From the Beginning to 1859" and "Saigon - Cho Lon Urban Area during the French Colonial Period (1859-1945)". According to the evaluation of the representative of the Award Committee, this work is a serious research work, providing many valuable documents, becoming a reliable source of information about the history of the Saigon - Cho Lon area, especially during the French colonial period.
Mr. Tran Dinh Ba, representative of the publishing unit, shared that the award is not only an honor for the publisher and the team of authors, but also a testament to the value of research works on the South, Gia Dinh and Saigon. He emphasized that this is the motivation for them to continue searching for quality manuscripts and connecting with reputable authors, in order to create publications that better serve readers.
At the award ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai emphasized the importance of promoting the award to domestic and foreign organizations and researchers, in order to improve the quality and quantity of nominations. He also proposed specific solutions for the award-winning works to promote their value in planning the development strategy of the city and the Southern region.
The Tran Van Giau Science Award was established in 2002, based on the wishes of the late Professor Tran Van Giau. This award is given annually to outstanding research works in the field of history and history of ideas in the South, the South Central Coast and Ho Chi Minh City. The awarded works are all of high scientific quality, good reference value and have the ability to spread widely.
Although this event had been interrupted for several years due to the lack of works meeting the criteria, 2023 witnessed a strong return with the work "Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City - Long Mile of History (1698 - 2020)" by researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu, also published by Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House, receiving the award for the 11th time.
