From Cua Dai tourist port (Hoi An Dong ward), tourists can travel by speedboat for about 20 minutes to reach Cham Island. Scuba diving is a popular experience for many visitors to "touch" the beautiful and colorful underwater world of Cham Island.
According to the Cu Lao Cham Marine Reserve Management Board, coral reefs stretching along the islands come in a variety of shapes and colors, creating a dazzling underwater landscape.
Scuba diving in Cu Lao Cham offers many different forms and levels of difficulty.
First is basic shallow diving with equipment such as a mask, snorkel, and life vest. This service is offered by all tour companies on the Cua Dai - Cu Lao Cham route. Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, representative of Phuc Hai Diving Company, said that this is the simplest form of diving, favored by young people and a popular choice for tourists experiencing diving in Cu Lao Cham today. The diving areas for this experience are mainly at coral reef diving spots on Hon Dai, Bai Xep, Bai Nan islands, etc.
The second experience is snorkeling. This is a more professional form of diving, popular with foreign tourists. For this experience, tourists often add fins to their equipment for easier speed control. The area and duration of this activity are longer, extending towards the coral reefs west of Cu Lao Cham.
The third experience is scuba diving with equipment and oxygen support (visitors must be in good health: blood pressure, cardiovascular health, no open wounds, etc.). This is a professional form of scuba diving and is only available to visitors with a diving certificate issued by an authorized agency (PADI, SSI, etc.).
The fourth experience is the underwater walking service. Currently, only one company in Cu Lao Cham offers this service. Before participating, divers will receive instruction on the methods and techniques from trainers. Then, divers will guide you underwater with oxygen supplied from the boat; the divers will lead you to observe marine life and coral reefs along a specially designed path on the seabed.
In 2023, Traveldudes ranked Cu Lao Cham among the top 4 best diving destinations in Vietnam. Traveldudes described the ideal time for diving in Cu Lao Cham as from April to September, with sea water temperatures ranging from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius.
