A vivid picture
For a long time, Dong Hoi has fulfilled its mission as the center of the former province. After the merger, that task has become even greater and more challenging as the new Quang Tri province places much trust and expectation in it. Comrade Phan Manh Hung, Secretary of the Dong Hoi Ward Party Committee, said that, proud of the province's expectations, the local Party committee and government have issued many plans and simultaneously implemented various tasks. In particular, they have focused on creating a strong shift in the awareness and actions of the urban population regarding the construction and development of culture in conjunction with socio-economic development, and the preservation and promotion of the local traditional cultural identity.
To effectively achieve the set goals, Dong Hoi ward is promoting cultural, sports , and tourism activities, leveraging the role of the community in preserving and spreading positive cultural values; building a healthy and civilized cultural environment in cyberspace; strengthening the preservation of cultural heritage values and promoting digital transformation in this field, contributing to promoting the image of the homeland.

In line with digital transformation aimed at promoting local culture and tourism development, youth union members in Dong Hoi ward have pioneered the application of science and technology, digitizing historical relics and cultural works in the area, such as: Ho Chi Minh Square - Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple and Martyrs' Memorial in Quang Tri province, Dong Hoi Prison, the Pho Party Branch relic, the Duc Ninh militia artillery battleground relic, and installing information boards for the Cong Don-Binh Phuc battle relic.
According to Nguyen Thi Kieu Trang, Secretary of the Dong Hoi Ward Youth Union, digitizing historical relics and cultural works not only helps preserve and store historical documents scientifically but also opens up a new approach to promoting the image and people of Dong Hoi in particular and Quang Tri province in general to the public. Tourists can explore the local history in a vivid and intuitive way, and digital data facilitates research, interactive tours, and local promotion in a smart and modern manner.
To foster well-rounded individuals and a humane, modern cultural environment, contributing to rapid and sustainable development in the new era, Dong Hoi has invested in upgrading its cultural institutions, training human resources, mobilizing social resources, and developing cultural models and festivals linked to tourism and the local economy, such as the Fishing Festival, the traditional boat rowing dance, and the Bài Chòi folk game. Currently, the entire ward has 8 cultural and sports centers, 6 football fields for 7-9 players, and over 100 sports training points; clubs are operating effectively, including those for table tennis, badminton, chess, cycling, aerobics, folk dance, martial arts, and pickleball.
The foundation of aspiration
Thanks to its potential, advantages, and synchronized investment, the achievements that Dong Hoi has attained are vivid evidence of the continuous efforts of the officials and people of the provincial capital over a long period of development. This is also the fundamental foundation for Dong Hoi to confidently pursue its aspirations for greater heights.

Typically, alongside the comprehensive results from agricultural production and fisheries, the tourism sector has seen significant growth. In the first five months of 2026, Dong Hoi welcomed over 500,000 visitors; advantageous industries such as seafood processing, mechanics, aluminum and glass, and civil carpentry continue to develop, contributing to job creation and increased income for the people.
Land management, urban order, environmental resources, and land clearance for key projects have yielded positive results. Specifically, the coastal road project has completed its compensation plan; the Nhat Le 3 bridge project and the roads at both ends of the bridge have completed 93.35% of the land clearance;... Public investment continues to be promoted, with the disbursed value of development investment capital reaching 33.2 billion VND, achieving 18% of the planned capital for 2026. Total state budget revenue in the area reached over 246 billion VND. Also, since the beginning of the year, Dong Hoi has received nearly 6,000 administrative procedure applications; the rate of online applications and online payments has reached 100%.
By 2030, Dong Hoi aims for a service sector growth rate of 10-12% per year, a 15-18% increase in tourist arrivals, urban infrastructure with 10.5 m2 of public green space per person, 100% of residential areas having cultural centers and sports facilities, over 95% of households achieving the title of "Culturally Advanced Family," over 70% of residents participating in regular physical exercise and sports, and 90% of young people receiving education and experiencing traditional historical and cultural values.
According to Comrade Hoang Ngoc Dan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Hoi Ward, the current situation provides impetus for Dong Hoi Ward to develop appropriate solutions to continue carrying out tasks and comprehensively developing the urban area. This includes leveraging strengths in personnel management and education-training development; reviewing projects to avoid wasting resources; improving urban infrastructure and planning public spaces with detailed features such as: green spaces, lighting, sidewalks, and drainage systems in a synchronized and modern manner. In particular, there is a plan to research and develop a model of urban forests... On the other hand, the ward is also striving to overcome existing problems in land clearance and disbursement of public investment capital. However, Dong Hoi also needs investment commensurate with the tasks and expectations set by the province.
With its existing foundation and the consensus of the people, in the not-too-distant future, Dong Hoi ward has reason to expect to be a shining example and a model for the province in operating the two-tiered local government model, especially in the areas of revenue collection, ensuring social order and safety, and improving the income, cultural life, and spiritual well-being of the people.
