Nestled along the gentle Sa Giang River, flower and ornamental plant growing has long been a traditional profession of the people of Sa Dec Ward ( Dong Thap Province) and has gradually become a famous production area with many varieties of flowers and ornamental plants in the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.
With over 30 years of experience in the flower and ornamental plant production industry, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Vo Mong Kha (residing in Sa Dec ward) is always enthusiastic about the profession, which brings the main source of income for his family. Over the years, Mr. Kha has introduced many new flower varieties to the flower village to serve the market well, such as: Gerbera daisy, Dutch raspberry daisy, Korean raspberry daisy...
To improve production efficiency, Mr. Kha invested in a greenhouse system combined with appropriate nutrition using organic fertilizers, so the flower garden grew well. Thanks to that, each year, Mr. Kha's family's flower garden supplies the market with about 10 - 12 thousand flower baskets of various types, bringing in a good income.

Dong Thap province is preparing all the work to organize the 2nd Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival in late 2025 and early 2026 in Sa Dec ward at the provincial level. In recent times, the sectors and levels of Dong Thap province in general and Sa Dec ward in particular have implemented many solutions to develop flower villages. The total number of producing households is more than 4,000 households, with an output of supplying the market with more than 12 million flower and ornamental products/year; the total value of flower and ornamental plant production in 2024 is estimated at about 3,300 billion VND, accounting for 79% of the value of agricultural production...

DEVELOPING SA DEC FLOWER VILLAGE ASSOCIATED WITH TOURISM
Nowadays, when flowers and ornamental plants have become the main products of Dong Thap province, farmers in Sa Dec Flower Village have developed products together, creating stable output through collective economic models. Currently, the entire Sa Dec Flower Village has about 13 enterprises operating in the field of flowers and ornamental plants and 17 cooperatives, guilds, and flower and ornamental plant cooperatives - becoming places to distribute and supply flowers and ornamental plants to the domestic market and for export.

Ms. Le Thuy Hien, Director of Tan Quy Dong Flower and Ornamental Plants Cooperative (Sa Dec Ward) said that the cooperative is a pioneer in collective economic development, established in 2007, the cooperative currently has 96 members with more than 50 hectares of production. The cooperative operates in the following main areas: Design, construction, buying and selling flowers and ornamental plants; supplying seedlings; supplying organic fertilizers; buying and selling materials for greenhouses and net houses...
In recent times, to improve the flower and ornamental plant industry, cooperative members have boldly applied high technology to production; up to now, about 60% - 70% of members have invested in greenhouses and membrane houses to produce flower and ornamental plant varieties... From there, it helps the cooperative to diversify its business, increasing income for members.
Identifying tourism as a key economic sector, Sa Dec ward has focused on developing infrastructure systems to serve tourism, exploiting specific cultural resources to develop tourism. In particular, tourism products based on the potential of craft villages, especially flower villages combined with ancient and spiritual architectural works (Huynh Thuy Le Ancient House, Kien An Cung Pagoda...) have attracted a large number of tourists.
Established in March 2019, up to now, the "Together in Tourism" Association has 39 members, including more than 15 businesses, tourism service establishments, homestays, hotels, restaurants, electric car services, specialty sales... This is a voluntary social organization that gathers passionate people who want to develop traditional flower and ornamental villages associated with community tourism development.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chairman of the “Together in Tourism” Club, shared: “We aim to build connections between members and the surrounding community. Each member must bond and share the benefits of their services with the community, creating more jobs and more tourism products but not overlapping products. From there, we will create more jobs, increase income, and improve the quality of tourism products and services.”
