The People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province has assigned the Khanh Hoa Provincial Development Projects Management Board as the investor for the project to restore and renovate the Dien Khanh ancient citadel. The project has a budget of nearly 167 billion VND and is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The project has an investment scale of 12 items, including the restoration and preservation of the original 2,500m long earthen rampart, with a rampart width of over 4m and a 2.6m wide brick-paved walkway...
New construction projects include a 2,000m long, 6m wide road running along the base of the citadel; an arched bridge over the moat; small parks; renovation of bridges at the citadel gates; dredging of mud and soil, cleaning of the moat bed and slopes, and waterproofing of the moat walls...
According to the leaders of the Dien Khanh District People's Committee, the total land area within the Dien Khanh ancient citadel is over 251,768 m². The project will clear approximately 55,451 m² of ancient citadel land, over 39,000 m² of land belonging to government agencies and organizations, and over 105,250 m² of land currently used by households.
After the project investor hands over the boundary markers, the local authorities will clear the land so that the construction unit can begin work.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien, director of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Development Project Management Board, said that the project to restore and renovate the Dien Khanh ancient citadel has completed the construction drawings and is currently undergoing verification.
At the same time, the unit is submitting the matter for comments from the Department of Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
Regarding land compensation and clearance, the consulting unit is preparing a map inspection and monitoring report to submit to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment for appraisal.
Subsequently, the committee will work with the Land Development Center and the People's Committee of Dien Khanh District to issue a decision on land acquisition and carry out compensation and site clearance for the project.
The Board is also currently working on the project's construction drawings and plans to select a contractor in September 2024.
"The design phase has been submitted to the Department of Heritage for appraisal because this is a national historical monument, and restoration and preservation must be based on the principle of preserving its original value," Mr. Hien said.
Dien Khanh Citadel was built in 1793, covering an area of 3.5 hectares, with a wall length of 2,600m and a wall height of 3.5m. This structure served as the political and administrative center of Khanh Hoa province from 1802 to 1945.
In 1988, the ancient citadel was classified as a national historical and cultural relic.
