This is a program to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2024) and National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024); it is also the first activity in a series of activities towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Journalists Association (April 21, 1950 - April 21, 2025).

Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School was established on April 4, 1949, the first journalism training facility of the Vietnamese revolutionary press and also the only training facility during the resistance war against French colonialism. On March 28, 2019, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 1182/QD-BVHTTDL to rank Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School as a national monument.

Previously, on January 18th, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism, the Vietnam Journalists Association, in coordination with the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province and other relevant agencies of Thai Nguyen province, commenced the restoration and preservation project of the national historical site of the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism.

The project includes main items: a stilt house of about 80 m2 , a "miniature museum" displaying the press of the Viet Bac War Zone 1946 - 1954. The stilt house was modeled after the stilt house of the Viet Minh Headquarters, where resistance press activities were directly directed, and where the Vietnam Journalists Association was established in 1950.

This project has a bas-relief with 48 portraits of the board members, lecturers and students of Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School; a hall inside the hill serving conferences, seminars and other activities, with a capacity of over 150 people; a mini square serving event organization, 200 m2 wide...

In addition, the complex also includes an 80 exhibition hall about the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism, built on a high hill, reconstructed based on historical documents and some archival images. Originally a bamboo and thatch building, it is now a wooden frame structure with a fire-resistant artificial thatched roof.

Honoring and remembering the pioneering generation of resistance journalists

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, journalist Le Quoc Minh, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, affirmed that the establishment of Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School is a special milestone associated with the glorious journey of journalism under the guidance of President Ho Chi Minh - the first teacher of revolutionary journalism, the genius leader of our nation.

From the very first milestone in journalism training at the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism, Vietnam now has more than 10 institutions training journalists for all four types of media: print, radio, television, and online, with degrees ranging from bachelor's to doctoral levels.

While in 1949, Vietnam had about 10 newspapers with approximately 300 journalists, by the end of 2023, the country had 6 major multimedia communication agencies, 127 newspapers, 671 magazines, 72 radio and television stations, and over 40,000 journalists…

"As time gradually flows with the flow of history, most of the lecturers and students of Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School have passed away. Although it is late, we are still trying to honor and remember a generation of pioneering resistance journalists on the press front who devoted their whole lives to contributing to the glorious tradition and vitality of our country's revolutionary press," said journalist Le Quoc Minh.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh affirmed that the inauguration of the project deeply demonstrates the sense of responsibility, pride, and gratitude of previous generations who have devoted themselves to the Party's revolutionary cause, to the nation's aspiration for independence and freedom, and to the people's happiness.

The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen Province, Trinh Viet Hung, presented certificates of commendation from the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee to the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Vietnam National Petroleum Group for their outstanding contributions to the restoration of the Huynh Thuc Khang School of Journalism.

This site honors the glorious traditions, noble mission, and immense contributions of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism in the struggle for national independence, reunification, and the building and protection of the Fatherland.

"This is also an opportunity for us to review the heroic revolutionary tradition of the nation, the glorious history of Vietnam's revolutionary press, to gain deeper awareness and contribute more responsibly to promoting the healthy development of the press and media, promptly meeting the requirements of the new period with many new difficulties and challenges," Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh acknowledged.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh requested that the relevant agencies, after receiving the handover of the relic, closely and regularly coordinate with the Vietnam Journalists Association to carry out useful activities, exploit and effectively use the functions of the restored and embellished items to continue to preserve, conserve and promote the sustainable value of a national relic of great stature and sacred significance, a place connecting the history, present and future of Vietnam's revolutionary press.
