When the mysterious "lake" plays an important role

The horror film “Under the Lake” opens up a world where the water reflects fear, resentment and the darkness hidden within each person.

The lake becomes a character

“Under the Lake” explores the phenomenon of “doubles”, an evil version born from obsession. The story begins when three young friends, Trung, Hung and Tu, disregard warnings and enter the “death stone lake” area. The first seemingly normal frames of the group taking wedding photos by the lake are quickly replaced by a series of strange supernatural phenomena.

The groom suddenly jumped into the water, and then the terrifying doppelganger emerged from the bottom of the lake. Moss wrapped tightly around his legs, pulling him down into the depths. As the doppelgangers emerged one by one, wandering around the residential area and trying to replace the original, Tu realized that he was the central target of the lake.

At the same time, the friendship between the three people is broken because only Tu witnessed the entire chain of horrifying events that were happening. The tension escalates as each clone becomes more intelligent, dangerous and can connect with the original through spiritual perception.

Unlike other films that use the lake as a static space, “Under the Lake” turns the lake into a living entity that can “hear” human obsessions. When the lake hears a strong enough obsession, it awakens the dark side of the ego and creates an evil double – a copy that carries all the anger, resentment and suppressed darkness. Trung is invaded by moss - is it because he has a secret? Tu confronts herself - because what in her has the lake “heard”?

With this personification, the lake is like an invisible villain - no dialogue, no face, but has the power to manipulate and change the fate of every person who comes near. An indispensable "role" in the story.

Impressive cast

Not only attracting audiences by its thrilling plot, the horror film "Under the Lake" also attracts audiences thanks to its impressive and unique young cast.

First of all, we have to mention Kay Tran (as Trung). He successfully portrayed freshness and youthfulness, but hidden within that was something unstable. Although not too famous for his acting, Kay brought the right energy to the role - something that director Tran Huu Tan appreciated more than the "heat of the game show".

Thanh Duy also surprised with his enchanting drag queen look when he transformed into Kylie, a different version living in a nightclub. Kylie's radiant image in a crimson outfit was both sublime and mysterious.

Nguyen Thao (as Mrs. Yen) is also considered to hold the key to decoding the "twin lake". In particular, her voice is commented to be close, with a genuine narrative like a real spiritual YouTuber.

The movie "Under the Lake" will be shown in theaters nationwide from June 6, 2025.
