After the burst of happiness when receiving the dream score, perhaps what remains in Duc Vinh is a journey of maturity for Vinh to perfect himself through each stage.
Pressure creates diamonds
The SAT becomes a journey of self-discovery for a top 1% global scoring student |
Vinh said he was very lucky to have had the opportunity to study well from a young age. But because of that, he was also under a lot of pressure because of the expectations that his family, teachers, and friends had for him. And to have an SAT score of 1560/1600, Vinh also experienced a lot of pressure.
Although he attended an international school since childhood, with English proficiency and basic knowledge of the American education program, Vinh still encountered certain obstacles when approaching the SAT.
At first, when he first came into contact with the types of knowledge, questions, and SAT practice tests, Vinh felt quite tired. In particular, because he had no experience in studying, Vinh spent a lot of time, an average of 3 hours/day, studying. Therefore, the deeper he delved into the knowledge, the more difficult it became for Vinh. He shared: "The first stage was really a difficult time for me." Vinh was also very confused because of the dozens of types of books, unclear study paths, where to choose reputable learning materials?...
Luckily, Vinh “groped” on the Internet, joined SAT self-study groups to learn more experiences. And a new door opened, he was able to share many test-preparation experiences, including self-studying on the Khan Academy platform - an official partner of the College Board - an organization specializing in providing SAT test preparation courses in the US.
Joining the exam preparation community, besides sharing experiences to study, Vinh also received encouragement and support from his friends. Interestingly, after the exam, Vinh had pocketed quite a few quality connections with students from all over the country, expanding his personal network.
From a 10th grade boy filled with confusion and uncertainty, Nguyen Doan Duc Vinh determined to overcome the difficulties in the SAT exam to discover a more complete and better self.
A journey that opens up horizons of opportunity
“It’s like a global experience for candidates” is Nguyen Doan Duc Vinh’s interesting perspective on the SAT exam. Specifically, in the Reading section, candidates need to analyze and answer questions revolving around knowledge from a variety of fields and cultures in different forms such as paragraphs and poems. Therefore, Vinh finds that the SAT review process helps him gain a “huge” source of knowledge.
Not only that, to achieve an impressive score on the SAT, Duc Vinh affirmed that students must form and practice critical thinking. In order to optimize the opportunity to choose the correct answer, candidates need to build a multi-dimensional perspective to reverse, analyze, and clarify the problem in the question.
Logical, critical thinking and a multidisciplinary knowledge base cultivated from the SAT exam have supported Duc Vinh in conquering professional passions such as debate activities, United Nations simulation conferences, business case competitions, etc.
Duc Vinh became the "class monitor" in the free, online SAT Open Classroom project sponsored by The Vietnam Foundation and Khan Academy Vietnam. |
Aware of how the community has shaped him, Duc Vinh is extremely happy that the SAT certificate can help him contribute to society. With a score of 1560, Duc Vinh became the "class monitor" in the free, online SAT Open Classroom project sponsored by The Vietnam Foundation and Khan Academy Vietnam.
Vinh and nearly 20 class monitors from all over the world have directly taught and accompanied hundreds of Vietnamese students to conquer the SAT exam. Through this meaningful project, this is an opportunity for Vinh to contribute to spreading the value of educational equality and free learning opportunities for all students in the S-shaped strip of land.
Sharing with reporters about his future plans, Vinh said he will continue to participate in community classes to share knowledge for free with his friends. In addition, Vinh has also applied to a number of universities in the US. But no matter where he studies, Vinh still wants to contribute knowledge to the community.
Values continue values. Hopefully, with the solid foundation gained from his journey to conquer the SAT exam, Nguyen Doan Duc Vinh will continue to develop and assert himself, spreading the image of Vietnam to the world as Vinh believes.
