(CT) - That was the topic of the discussion (both in-person and online) hosted by Can Tho University (CTU) on the morning of June 16. Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment; leaders of international cooperation agencies; leaders of international and domestic institutes and schools; leaders of localities in the Mekong Delta region... attended the discussion.

Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of CTU, emphasized: Science and technology, innovation and start-ups promote business and community development, are important resources in the development of the Mekong Delta and the whole country. International practical experience proves that, currently, start-ups and business creation are important driving forces of the economy , contributing to solving global difficulties and challenges as well as moving towards sustainable development. CTU has resources of nearly 2,000 staff, lecturers and over 45,000 students; advanced, interdisciplinary and specialized science and technology. The school has synchronously upgraded and modern facilities through the ODA Project of the Government of Japan; a rich network of domestic and international partners. CTU is committed to accompanying agencies and units, especially connecting international organizations, contributing to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta.
At the seminar, delegates focused on presenting issues on scientific research, technology transfer and innovation in the Mekong Delta; vision and solutions for national innovation; innovation and entrepreneurship among youth... The seminar also had many presentations from real cases such as "Startup Cranes" of Dong Thap province; Chiang Mai University Science and Technology Incubator (Thailand); from innovation to business development, the typical success of Ho Quang Tri Private Enterprise with the ST25 rice brand... Many presentations deeply analyzed the current situation, proposed useful and specific solutions in promoting science and technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. CTU will synthesize, from which to make proposals and recommendations to the Government, relevant ministries and local branches.
Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong said: In recent times, many important policies and solutions of the Party and State have been and are being implemented towards the goal of sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region. In the Mekong Delta Regional Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, the Mekong Delta by 2030 is oriented to become a sustainable, dynamic and highly effective agricultural economic center of the country, region and the world. To achieve this goal, localities in the region need to identify the most important factor as relying on the development of science and technology, innovation and start-ups; and improving the quality of human resources.
At the seminar, CTU signed a cooperation agreement with 3 units: National Innovation Center (NIC) - Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, Can Tho branch (VCCI Can Tho), Rynan Technologies Vietnam Joint Stock Company.
This is the 6th seminar within the framework of the Mekong Delta Sustainable Development Forum with a vision to 2045 - SDMD 2045. SDMD 2045 is implemented according to the Government's policy, initiated by CTU since 2022, aiming to connect domestic and international stakeholders, contributing to proposing orientations, policies and solutions for the Government, agencies and sectors. At the same time, promoting cooperation in building and implementing practical programs and projects for sustainable development of the Mekong Delta.
