Groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and repair project of Phu Tho Sports Stadium

In the jubilant atmosphere of the people of the whole country celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, on the morning of April 26, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City and the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Civil and Industrial Works held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to renovate and repair Phu Tho Sports Stadium.

This is the first project for a series of projects to renovate, invest in, and upgrade key sports facilities to serve the hosting of the 2026 National Sports Festival in Ho Chi Minh City. Phu Tho Sports Stadium was inaugurated in November 2003 and put into use during the 2003 Southeast Asian Games - SEA Games in Vietnam.

After many years of operation with the function of organizing sports, cultural and exhibition events of the city, Phu Tho Sports Stadium has seriously degraded. Many items and equipment no longer meet the technical requirements for training and competing in sports. In addition, the design standards of the Stadium project also need to be changed towards international standards, meeting the organization of major domestic and international sporting events in the future.

According to the investor, the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Civil and Industrial Works, Phu Tho Sports Stadium needs to be renovated and repaired in almost every aspect, from the competition floor, stands, dome to peripheral items (auxiliary training area, fences, electricity and water systems, lighting systems, technical machine rooms, internal roads)...

The total investment for the repair and renovation of Phu Tho Sports Stadium is estimated at 229 billion VND from the city's public investment capital.

The main construction unit is Phu An Thinh Construction Joint Stock Company, COINCO is the construction supervision consultant.

The repair period is from May 2025 to June 2026, ensuring completion in time to serve the organization of the 2026 National Sports Festival in Ho Chi Minh City.
