Pep Guardiola's close friend leaves Man City

Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain officially parted ways with Man City after the journey at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ ended on July 1.

At 60, Begiristain has amassed a huge trophy collection as a sporting director. In total, he won 30 trophies in 7 years at Barcelona and 13 years at Man City. Among them, Begiristain has 3 Champions League titles, 11 La Liga, 3 National Cups, 6 Super Cups, 5 League Cups, 1 European Super Cup and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.

Begiristain and coach Pep Guardiola are close friends and have worked well together, helping bring 13 titles to Man City since the summer of 2016.

Asked about Begiristain's departure last year, Pep Guardiola said: "A part of me is going to be lost. He was a close friend, a great architect who created two great teams. He will be missed very much personally."

In contrast to Begiristain, Guardiola decided to stay with Man City for another 2 years, until the summer of 2027. If he completes this contract, Guardiola will stay with Man City for 11 years.

The Spanish coach is determined to help Man City recover from a disappointing 2024/25 season.
