The analysis also revealed that this result is due to the increased number of flight routes to these countries, concentrated among low-cost carriers (LCCs), making them more accessible to travelers.
Analysis by Kyowon Tour based on travel booking data shows that Mongolia ranks first, accounting for 18.3% of total bookings. It is considered a particularly popular travel destination among young Koreans, due to its relatively low average temperature even in mid-summer, providing a pleasant experience.
The increased demand for tourism in Mongolia is attributed to the rise in Mongolian flights, primarily offered by low-cost airlines, departing from local South Korean airports such as Busan, Cheongju, and Daegu.
Changes in consumer trends also have an impact. Surveys show that tourists want to visit destinations that offer new experiences. In particular, premium products account for 45.7% of total bookings by tourists traveling to Mongolia.
During the same period, Vietnam was the second most preferred country, accounting for 16.8% of bookings for the summer of 2025.
By region, Nha Trang ranked first with 49.3% of bookings, followed by Da Nang with 24.7% and Phu Quoc with 24.5%.
Some reasons why Korean tourists prefer Nha Trang include its beautiful, natural beaches and diverse recreational activities; its developed tourism infrastructure and services that are friendly to Koreans; and its many convenient direct flights. Currently, there are direct flights from South Korea to Nha Trang, Busan, and Daegu, with the number of flights increasing. Statistics show that there are approximately 78 flights per week, equivalent to 11 flights per day, connecting South Korea to Nha Trang, operated by 8-9 major airlines from both Vietnam and South Korea.
Following Vietnam are China with 13.3%, Japan with 8.6%, and Thailand with 7.3%. In China, Baekdu Mountain and Zhangjiajie are popular destinations among middle-aged and elderly Koreans.
Among long-haul travel destinations, Europe is the most popular. Eastern Europe (6.2%), Western Europe (6.0%), Northern Europe (4.5%), and Southern Europe (3.6%) rank sixth to ninth. Australia, with its cool climate even in summer, ranks tenth.
A leader of Kyowon Tour stated that this summer, in addition to traditionally popular destinations such as Southeast Asia and Japan, demand for destinations with unique nature and culture, such as Mongolia, has increased significantly. Kyowon Tour will continue to introduce differentiated products to meet the diverse travel trends of Korean tourists.
