Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam My commune, said that the locality possesses a large agricultural land fund, thanks to which garden farming is gradually asserting its important role in the restructuring of production. The total agricultural land area of the commune is currently over 16,312 hectares, accounting for more than 94% of the natural area; of which the area of land planted with perennial crops reaches over 662 hectares. By 2025, the total area of annual crops planted in the locality is estimated to reach 1,672 hectares, with a total production of about 9,481 tons.

Thanks to government support mechanisms for the period 2022-2025, the garden economy has achieved many positive results in recent years. The entire commune has 21 garden owners who have received support for developing their garden and farm economies. Of these, 20 garden owners have received disbursed funds totaling nearly 1.4 billion VND. The support has been used to improve land, invest in irrigation systems, purchase plant varieties, and apply new techniques to production. Recently, the locality has focused on encouraging people to renovate their orchards, diversify crop structures, and develop high-value fruit trees. Many households have proactively invested in improving their gardens and applying advanced techniques to production.

Mr. Mai Bá Nghi (Phú Quý 3 village, Tam Mỹ commune) is one of the pioneering households in transforming his mixed orchard into a fruit-growing area. From a previously unproductive mixed-crop garden, Mr. Nghi boldly invested in improving the soil and rearranging the plants to focus on fruit trees, with lemons as the main crop.

“The transformation not only makes the garden more airy and easier to care for, ensuring stable and long-term harvesting, but also aligns with the local orientation of integrating agriculture with tourism . This garden renovation is also consistent with development plans and contributes to the formation of a future raw material area,” Mr. Nghi said.

According to the Rural Development Sub-Department, nearly 2,000 orchards have received support under the mechanism of Resolution No. 35/2021/NQ-HĐND, which stipulates the mechanism for supporting the development of orchard and farm economies in the former Quang Nam province. The models mainly focus on developing high-value fruit trees such as citrus fruits, rambutan, mangosteen, durian, banana, jackfruit, dragon fruit, pepper, cinnamon, and betel nut… In mountainous areas, many medicinal plants such as Ngoc Linh ginseng, Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Angelica sinensis, and Morinda officinalis are also being developed.

Thanks to support resources, many orchard owners have been able to invest more comprehensively in production. The application of science and technology in crop care, pest and disease control, and water management has seen many positive changes. Many models have adopted semi-automatic irrigation systems, and even automatic irrigation systems controlled via smartphones. Current orchard models are also oriented towards ecological development, emphasizing environmental landscape.

As of May 2026, the entire city has more than 220 gardens and farms with the potential to combine tourism development with experiential tourism, and approximately 1,600 gardens have participated in production linkages along the value chain. “Although most models are still in the initial investment phase due to the long-term nature of crop cultivation, many gardens have already started harvesting, generating income from 30-100 million VND/year; some farms achieve revenue of around 200-300 million VND/year,” informed Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Head of the Rural Development Sub-Department.

Based on practical implementation, many localities have requested the city to continue maintaining policies supporting agricultural and rural development in the 2026-2030 period. They also requested the issuance of separate mechanisms for the development of garden and farm economies, rural tourism development, and livelihood support for mountainous regions.

“We hope the city will continue to implement policies supporting agricultural and rural development; supporting the development of garden and farm economies in the 2026-2030 period; along with projects such as the Planting One Billion Trees program in the 2026-2030 period and the Rural Tourism Development Program in the construction of new rural areas in the 2026-2030 period…”, Chairman of Tam My Commune People's Committee Nguyen Quang Thanh expressed.

In the coming period, the city will continue to review and adjust the planning of production areas and develop concentrated agricultural zones with synchronized infrastructure. The formation of large-scale raw material areas through land consolidation and reallocation will create favorable conditions for mechanization, the application of advanced production processes such as VietGAP and GlobalGAP, and attract businesses to participate in production linkages.

In addition, the city is promoting investment in agricultural infrastructure, supporting trade promotion, developing consumer markets, and encouraging businesses to invest in cold storage and deep processing facilities in raw material areas to increase the added value of agricultural products. Accordingly, the City People's Committee plans to submit to the City People's Council a resolution on policies to support agricultural and rural development for the period 2026-2030 after completing all necessary documents as required.
