Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and Honduran Economic Development Minister Fredis Cerrato jointly announced the official launch of FTA negotiations through a meeting via video conference.

Previously, in a joint statement issued on June 12, the two countries reached a consensus on participating in discussions on an FTA.

According to China Daily , the launch of China-Honduras FTA negotiations aims to strengthen substantive cooperation in bilateral economic and trade fields. The two sides aim to create momentum to further improve the quality and level of bilateral trade, as well as increase investment and cooperation in various fields.

At a regular press conference on the afternoon of July 4, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that this was an important common understanding reached between the two heads of state during Honduran President Xiomara Castro's visit to China last June, fully demonstrating the goodwill of both sides in enhancing substantive cooperation.

Ms. Mao Ning pointed out that since the two countries established diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have shown strong momentum of development, and cooperation in various fields has been expanding. China is willing to work with Honduras to further tap its potential, create more highlights, and strive to achieve more results in mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to create an even brighter future for bilateral relations.

On June 5, China officially inaugurated its embassy in Honduras, after the two countries established diplomatic relations on March 26.
