With the mission of connecting the Vietnamese bloodline, the program aims to achieve a target number of blood units collected to best meet the blood needs for treating and saving patients; strengthen communication and community education activities on the importance of voluntary blood donation, thereby creating positive changes in community awareness and behavior.

This year, the program will last for two months (from May 30th to July 30th) in 48 provinces and cities, with an expected collection of 100,000 units of blood, including 25,000 units at the main event and 75,000 units at the blood donation awareness days.

Recently, on June 14th – World Blood Donor Day – the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, in coordination with the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital of Can Tho City and Binh Duong University - Ca Mau Branch, organized the 13th "Red Journey" program in 2025: "Connecting the Vietnamese Bloodline" and honored outstanding blood donors of the province in 2024. This is the 11th time Ca Mau province has participated in this meaningful and humane program.

As a volunteer participating in the first "Red Journey" blood donation campaign across Vietnam in 2013, Ms. Ho Quy Nhi, Vice President of the Provincial Youth Council, has a record of 41 blood donations. She was also honored to receive the "For the Cause of Humanity" commemorative medal awarded by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society at this year's "Red Journey." She shared: "This is a great honor, marking 15 years of participating in social welfare work, especially the voluntary blood donation movement. What makes me happiest is that the blood I donate has saved many lives. Occasionally, a few months after donating blood, I receive a message notifying me which patient my blood unit has been donated to. This motivates me to donate blood regularly."

Having started participating in the "Red Journey" in 2015, Ms. Ngo Mai Ly, Secretary of the Youth Union at Binh Duong University - Ca Mau Branch, shared: "This is the motivation for me to continue contributing more to blood donation activities. When I returned to my hometown, participated in Youth Union work at the school and received support from the school, I maintained the blood donation. Every year, the school organizes three blood donation events, bringing together people with hearts for the community. Voluntary blood donation is not only about helping others, but through it, each student will also learn many meaningful lessons from this small act that has great value; every drop of blood given saves a life."

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2025 "Red Journey" in Ca Mau, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, said: "In recent years, the blood donation movement has achieved encouraging results, making a practical contribution to the care and protection of people's health. However, according to statistics from the National Steering Committee for Blood Donation, the amount of blood collected is still insufficient to meet the treatment needs of patients."

In 2024, the whole country mobilized and received nearly 1.75 million units of blood, equivalent to over 1.7% of the population participating in blood donation, of which 98% came from voluntary blood donors. In Ca Mau province alone, in 2024, 23 blood donation drives were organized, with 10,000 people registering to donate voluntarily; resulting in the mobilization of 8,785 units of blood, achieving 72% of the assigned target. The number of people donating blood for the second time or more reached 86%; the percentage of the population participating in blood donation reached 0.73%.

Since the beginning of the year, the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation has organized 19 blood donation drives, with 4,044 volunteers donating blood, collecting more than 5,660 units of blood, achieving 43% of the assigned target.

Having donated blood 21 times, Ms. Tran Thuy Trang (from the Union of Science and Technology Associations of the province) always maintains a relaxed and confident attitude, because she understands that every drop of blood given saves a life.

“The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Society, the International Blood Transfusion Association, and the World Blood Donor Association have designated June 14th to honor blood donors. I wholeheartedly welcome and call upon all levels, sectors, organizations, and individuals to actively participate in and support the blood donation movement; and at the same time, commend the collectives, families, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the blood donation movement, especially those who have directly donated blood and donated blood multiple times,” the Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province praised and called for.

The "Red Journey" - the "Connecting Vietnamese Bloodlines" campaign - has been launched in Ca Mau. It is believed that the positive messages, the spirit of mutual support and compassion, and the connection of hearts within the program will be sustained, encouraging every citizen to participate in blood donation for the community.
