Don't let wild birds fall into the trap.

Forest rangers in Tuyen Quang province have launched a coordinated campaign to protect wild birds and strictly punish illegal hunting, especially during the bird migration season.

Throughout November, forest rangers in areas under the Tuyen Quang Provincial Forest Protection Department launched several intensive patrols, inspections, and crackdowns on the hunting and trapping of wild birds. This is the peak season for bird migration, and many individuals take advantage of this to set nets, traps, use decoy birds, and employ sound-emitting devices to exterminate wild bird species.

On November 13th, the Forest Protection Team of Hung An commune, in coordination with the Economic Department, the Police, the Commune Military Command, and the security team, conducted inspections in several areas suspected of having traps set.

Inspection work

Upon inspection, authorities discovered two decoy birds and one migratory bird caught in traps; they also confiscated six black nylon nets, three sound-boosting devices, one mini speaker, eight loudspeakers, and numerous electrical wires. Although the perpetrators have not yet been identified, the task force promptly dismantled all the equipment and brought it to the commune's People's Committee office for further verification and processing according to regulations.

According to Mr. Hoang Minh Diep, a forest ranger from the Forest Protection Department of Region VII, the hunting of wild birds is becoming increasingly complex. Taking advantage of the bird migration season, many people use nets, traps, and bird calls to attract birds, with the aim of hunting them for food or to sell for profit. This is a dangerous act that seriously reduces biodiversity and disrupts the ecological balance.

In addition to inspection work, the Forest Protection Department of Region VII is also stepping up propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage households and businesses involved in the processing and trading of forest products to sign commitments to comply with the law in the management, exploitation, trading, transportation of forest products, and forest fire prevention and control during the 2025-2026 dry season. The Forest Protection Team in Bang Hanh commune is also coordinating with specialized departments to conduct field inspections and update and monitor forest changes in 2025.

Not only in Hung An, but also in Hoa An commune, on the evening of October 27th, the commune police, in coordination with the local Forest Protection Team and the local security and order protection team, conducted patrols in the Quang Minh village's rice fields. There, authorities discovered a black net approximately 100 meters long and two loudspeakers used for trapping birds. Since the owner could not be identified, authorities drew up a report, confiscated the items, and are continuing the investigation.

Since October, numerous cases of bird trapping have been discovered in various localities throughout Tuyen Quang province. This situation directly impacts the ecosystem, rapidly reducing the number of native bird species and pushing many rare species to the brink of extinction. Birds are crucial links in pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control; indiscriminate hunting reduces the ability of forests and ecosystems to recover and maintain natural balance.

Don't let wild birds fall into the trap.

According to Mr. Dao Duy Tuan, Head of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Forest Protection Department, in order to protect wild birds and animals, the Department has requested regional Forest Protection Units to closely coordinate with the government and relevant forces to strengthen inspections and strictly handle acts of illegal hunting, trading, and keeping of migratory birds and wild animals.

Authorities need to regularly organize raids to crack down on the trading and transportation of wild birds in markets, on social media, and along transportation routes. Alongside this, they should intensify public awareness campaigns to educate people; encourage them to sign pledges not to hunt or consume wild birds; and integrate environmental education into schools to instill a habit of protecting nature in the younger generation.

With the decisive involvement of forest rangers and relevant agencies, along with the increasing awareness of the people, Tuyen Quang is striving to prevent wild birds from falling into traps, contributing to the protection of biodiversity and preserving the beauty of nature for future generations.
