Doraemon sweeps Vietnamese theaters.

According to Box Office Vietnam data, as of June 26th, Doraemon Movie 45: Nobita and the Castle Under the Sea surpassed 100 billion VND at the Vietnamese box office after only 6 days of release. This achievement makes Doraemon Movie 45 the first foreign film to surpass 100 billion VND at the Vietnamese box office in 2026. It is also the second fastest animated film to reach 100 billion VND in domestic box office history, second only to Conan Movie 28 .

The film's revenue has ample opportunity to increase significantly in the coming days, as International Children's Day and the summer holidays approach.

The adventure unfolds when Doraemon proposes a solution: visiting the mountain peaks at the bottom of the ocean.

Before sweeping through Vietnamese theaters, the film also created a sensation in its home country of Japan upon its release in late February 2026. It topped the Japanese box office charts for its first six weeks and grossed a total of $25.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo data.

With this film, the producers decided to remake the story of Nobita and the Castle Under the Sea – a work originally released in 1983 and considered one of the most beloved installments of the Doraemon series for over 40 years. The new version has been comprehensively upgraded in terms of visuals, sound, and storytelling to suit modern audiences, but overall retains the original spirit of the 1983 film.

In the movie, Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo, and Jaian are divided into factions arguing whether to spend their summer vacation in the forest or by the sea. Ultimately, Doraemon suggests exploring the mountain peaks at the bottom of the ocean. To travel across the vast ocean, Doraemon uses his Buggy gadget – a cheap, slightly grumpy old cargo vehicle.

The adventure into the deep blue sea leads Doraemon and his group to encounter a strange civilization - the Kingdom of Mu. They are people who have existed at the bottom of the sea for thousands of years, witnessing the ups and downs of humanity on land.

Venturing deeper into this mysterious world , the group realizes that the artificial intelligence system protecting Mu is gradually spiraling out of control. The defense machines are beginning to view humans on Earth as a threat, forcing Doraemon and Nobita to find a way to stop it.

Topical themes, science fiction-style plot.

The film's strengths lie in its cleverly crafted script that seamlessly integrates the story of the relationship between humans and robots, and the challenge of environmental protection. This theme is highly relevant in the context of the rapidly developing artificial intelligence (AI) and its close integration with human life. The plot is simple yet effectively conveys a meaningful message.

The Kingdom of Mu is the most visually striking highlight.

With its fresh and topical theme, the film retains the characteristic adventurous spirit of Doraemon , especially in the beginning with Nobita's group's underwater camping trip. The idea of climbing mountains underwater, along with gadgets like the Tekio lamp that help people adapt to the ocean environment, continues to deliver a thrilling, science-fiction feel typical of Fujiko F. Fujio.

The adventurous atmosphere at the bottom of the sea is also very well done, showcasing the allure of a place that is both mysteriously beautiful and creates a sense of tension due to water pressure, darkness, and the time limitations of the artifact's operation.

From the opening minutes, the film impresses by recreating the vast ocean space with its characteristic deep blue hues, fluid lighting, and vibrant marine life. Schools of fish swimming in layers, colorful coral clusters, and constantly moving water are meticulously crafted, giving the feeling of stepping into a giant aquarium.

The Kingdom of Mu is its most striking visual highlight. While the 1983 version primarily showcased the mystique of an ancient civilization, the new version expands the design to blend science fiction and fantasy elements. Gigantic structures glowing in the depths of the ocean, a crystal-powered energy system, and modern metal structures allow Mu to retain its mythical essence while also embracing futuristic technology.

The climactic scene involving Buggy unfolds gently but touches the viewer's emotions.

The character that receives the most attention in the film is Buggy the submersible – Doraemon's gadget. This character also plays a crucial role in the movie. While in the original version, this character was colder and more edgy, in the remake, Buggy is portrayed as gentle and emotional from the start. This vehicle is like a true friend, no longer just a soulless machine.

Buggy has emotions and a connection with his group of friends, especially Shizuka. In particular, Buggy's gradual development of his emotions and heart is the most important emotional axis of the work. The climactic scene involving Buggy unfolds gently but touches the viewer's emotions.

Unfortunately, details were omitted.

Although it retains the main storyline of the original version, Doraemon Movie 45: Nobita and the Castle Under the Sea Many details that contributed to the depth of the original were cut out. As a result, the film sometimes has rushed plot transitions that are confusing. The biggest regret is the significantly shortened interaction time between Buggy and Shizuka.

Towards the end, the plot becomes somewhat simplistic, with the main characters always surviving thanks to luck or "plot twists," while the supporting characters are easily eliminated. Meanwhile, the villain Poseidon needs more screen time to demonstrate his dangerousness.

Ignoring the acceptable drawbacks of an animated film, Doraemon Movie 45: Nobita and the Castle Under the Sea is still a decent, quality family entertainment movie that successfully evokes Doraemon's signature adventurous spirit.
