Agricultural extension promotes efficient production.

(GLO) - Through various demonstration models in crop cultivation, livestock farming, and aquaculture, the Gia Lai Provincial Agricultural Extension Center is gradually bringing technological advancements into production practice, contributing to improved economic efficiency and promoting green and sustainable agricultural development.

Many models have proven effective.

Gia Lai has great potential for agricultural and forestry development thanks to its climate and soil conditions suitable for many types of short-term and long-term crops. The eastern part of the province is favorable for rice cultivation, legumes, vegetables, medicinal plants under the forest canopy, and aquaculture; while the western part is suitable for high-value long-term industrial crops such as coffee, pepper, rubber, durian, fruit trees, and livestock farming.

Recognizing that the transfer of technological advancements is a solution to improve production efficiency on the same land area, in recent years, with funding from the province, national agricultural extension programs, and socialized capital, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has built many demonstration models suitable for each production region to help people access, apply, and replicate them.

In 2025, the Center will implement 17 demonstration models, including 12 crop farming models, 3 livestock farming models, and 2 aquaculture models. Many models have initially yielded clear economic benefits, such as intensive chili cultivation according to VietGAP standards; organic rice production; pumpkin cultivation; intensive hybrid rice cultivation in ethnic minority areas; mung bean cultivation on converted land; intensive grass cultivation; and biomass corn production on less productive land.

For long-term industrial crops, the agricultural extension sector focuses on implementing intensive coconut cultivation models; applying mechanization in rice sowing; cultivating medicinal plants; producing organic coffee in the 2023-2025 period; and producing smart coffee adapted to climate change in Gia Lai . In the livestock and aquaculture sector, there are models for fattening cattle, raising pheasants, raising sea ducks; semi-intensive whiteleg shrimp farming using Semi BioFloc technology and commercial fish farming in cages.

Mr. Le Van Suc (Hamlet 3, Ia Phi Commune) said that in 2023 he participated in a smart coffee farming model adapted to climate change, supported by Binh Dien Fertilizer Company, the Western Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology Institute, the National Agricultural Extension Center, and the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center.

On his 1.5-hectare plot of land, where coffee is intercropped with durian, he received guidance on proper irrigation and fertilization techniques, as well as organic farming practices. This helped reduce maintenance costs, minimize pests and diseases, and improve economic efficiency.

Mr. Suc shared: "Since participating in the model, the coffee garden has developed steadily, pests and diseases have decreased, and income has also improved. Currently, many people have come to visit and learn about it in order to replicate it."

In addition to models funded by the State, in recent years many businesses have also collaborated with the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center and local authorities to build demonstration models of new rice varieties with high yield and quality, aiming to replace old, degraded rice varieties.

In particular, ThaiBinh Seed Central - Central Highlands Co., Ltd. ( thuộc ThaiBinh Seed Group) is a pioneer in implementing demonstration models of new rice varieties in many localities in the province to help people access and put them into production.

Mr. Buân (Dôr 2 village, Đak Đoa commune) said that for the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop season, he received support from ThaiBinh Seed Central - Western Highlands Co., Ltd. and the Mang Yang Public Service Center to produce high-quality TBR16 rice seeds on an area of 0.5 sao (approximately 0.05 hectares). He received specific technical guidance on everything from seed germination and sowing to cultivation.

Mr. Buân shared: “The TBR16 rice variety grows quite well, is less susceptible to pests and diseases, and the actual yield is estimated at about 70 quintals of fresh rice per hectare, higher than the traditional rice varieties that farmers have been using for a long time. Therefore, my family will continue to expand the cultivation of this rice variety next season.”

Expectations for the new phase

Following the merger, Gia Lai's agricultural sector has more room for development, so the transfer of advanced technologies is being given even greater attention. Agricultural extension activities continue to be promoted in many communes and wards; at the same time, additional social resources from businesses are being mobilized to support the construction of demonstration models for mass production.

According to Mr. Huynh Viet Hung, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, the transfer of advanced technologies has contributed to improving the capacity and efficiency of agricultural production for farmers. This is also an important solution in the process of restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development.

In particular, the Center has proactively organized numerous training courses to guide people and businesses exporting coffee and key agricultural products of the province to understand the European Union's Regulations on Deforestation Prevention and Control (EUDR), contributing to meeting the requirements of the export market.

Looking ahead, Gia Lai province will continue to focus on developing high-tech agriculture, clean agriculture, production according to VietGAP standards, organic farming, and digital transformation to form concentrated commodity production areas.

Notably, the Provincial People's Committee has just issued the List of agricultural extension programs for the period 2026-2030, including 8 types of crop cultivation models, 1 type of forestry model, 5 types of livestock farming models, and 8 types of aquaculture models. In addition, relevant agencies will coordinate with media outlets to strengthen propaganda, organize training, and workshops to help people access and effectively apply technological advancements in production.

Mr. Huynh Viet Hung further stated: “The agricultural extension catalog for the period 2026-2030 will create conditions for the agricultural extension sector to build more demonstration models in the fields of crop cultivation, livestock farming, aquaculture, mechanization, and forestry; while prioritizing production linkage models associated with consumption between cooperatives, businesses, and farmers to enhance the potential for replication in practice.”

It can be seen that, along with the development of the province's agricultural sector, agricultural extension activities in Gia Lai are gradually being reformed, becoming a driving force to promote green, efficient, and sustainable development of local agriculture in the coming years.
