Vuong Phuc Toan (24 years old, residing in Prosper Plaza apartment building, Dong Hung Thuan Ward, Ho Chi Minh City; formerly Tan Thoi Nhat Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City), said he works freelance in marketing in Ho Chi Minh City. Toan said that thanks to his knowledge of AI applications, he was able to quickly process a series of SEO-optimized articles in just one morning.
"Clients send me summaries, I load them into ChatGPT, make a few adjustments, and it's done. A 1,000-word article costs 80,000 VND. I can process 5-6 articles in a session," Toan said.
Earning extra income using AI-powered writing applications is a growing trend among young people, especially those studying media, design, and information technology. They don't need to be experts in their field from the start; they just need to master the tools, know how to formulate commands, questions, or requests, and have a knack for negotiating prices.
Do Thi Minh Chau (26 years old, residing at 47 Tan Quy Street, Tan Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City; formerly Tan Hung Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City), graduated in graphic design from a university. Chau said she used to receive orders to design event banners from regular clients, and almost all of the products were created using AI.
"The client doesn't know that I just sat there writing commands for the AI to draw the image. But as long as the quality is good and meets the requirements, that's all that matters," Chau said.
From creating TikTok videos and illustrations to coding simple websites, making presentation slides, writing reports for hire, completing theses, and creating content for fan pages, a wide range of freelance work is being assisted by AI. Some young people are even forming "industrial teams," meaning they divide the process, specialize in each step, and let AI handle the majority of the workload.

Nguyen Trong Vy (25 years old, residing in Vinhomes Grand Park apartment complex, Tan Nhon Phu Ward, Ho Chi Minh City; formerly Long Thanh My Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), a former freelance blogger and social media content writer, shared: "When I first used ChatGPT, I was afraid of losing my job. But then I learned how to use it as a support tool. For example, creating outlines, generating ideas, and checking spelling. Thanks to that, my speed increased and the quality became more consistent."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Deputy Director and Content Creator at Skill Media Co., Ltd., Phuoc Long Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Phuoc Binh Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), stated: "Many young people are demonstrating flexibility and quick adaptation to the technological age. They are not afraid to experiment with new tools and are willing to learn how to 'communicate' with AI to serve their work and improve their income. Some even offer courses on using ChatGPT to write content, create videos using Runway or Genmo, and create images using Leonardo AI... And the story of 'using AI to do' is no longer a secret. Many young people consider this a new skill, similar to knowing how to use Excel, Photoshop, or Premiere."

However, experts also argue that relying on AI to do all the work for them can easily cause young people to lose fundamental skills and the ability to reason independently. Worse, it creates a rationalized, cheating mindset, meaning that as long as there is a product, who does the work doesn't matter.
According to Ms. Thi: "In the era of the AI boom, it is encouraging that young people are leveraging technology to earn extra income."
