On the morning of December 23, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang attended the Announcement Ceremony of Kien Giang Province Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
This is the first time after more than 38 years of construction and development that Kien Giang has a provincial planning that is integrated in a multi-sectoral and multi-field direction.
During the planning process, the province mobilized the participation of more than 100 experts, scientists , and researchers to have the best planning with the goal of helping Kien Giang maximize its potential and strengths, unleash resources, and continue to develop faster and stronger in the future.
The plan sets a goal that by 2030, Kien Giang will be a province with a high quality of life in the Mekong Delta; the center of the country's marine economy.
The cities of Rach Gia, Ha Tien, and Phu Quoc are the main development triangle of the urban economy, trade, and services towards the sea. In which, Phu Quoc is a center of high-quality services, eco-tourism, and national and international sea and island resort tourism, connecting with major economic centers in the region and the world; Rach Gia is a green trade and service city; and Ha Tien is a heritage city.
By 2030, the average GRDP growth rate in the 2021-2030 period will reach 7%/year; GRDP per capita will reach 127 million VND, equivalent to 4,985 USD; the poverty rate will reach below 2% according to current standards.
The proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery sector accounts for 29.6%, industry - construction accounts for 24.7%, of which industry accounts for about 15%, services account for 41.1% and product tax minus subsidies accounts for 4.6% in the economic structure of the province.

After 2030, Rach Gia Coastal Economic Zone will be established as a comprehensive, multi-sector economic zone; focusing on the development of trade, services, seaport logistics, urban - service - tourism, coastal industry, aquaculture and seafood exploitation, renewable energy and new marine economic sectors, in order to promote the comprehensive potential and advantages of a comprehensive - specialized urban area, a focal point for fisheries and Rach Gia airport.
The province will also establish the Kien Giang Provincial Border Gate Economic Zone, including the Ha Tien Border Gate Economic Zone and the Giang Thanh Border Gate Area.
The plan also identifies more than 200 priority projects calling for investment in Kien Giang province. On the occasion of the conference announcing the plan, Kien Giang province leaders presented 11 investment policies and 18 minutes of investment research of investors to be implemented in the province in the coming time.
Kien Giang Provincial Party Secretary Do Thanh Binh hopes that businesses and investors will accompany the province, soon realize the projects identified in the Provincial Planning; promptly inform and exchange with Kien Giang provincial authorities to find solutions to remove difficulties in the project implementation process, with the spirit of "develop together"

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang acknowledged and commended the Party Committee, government and people of Kien Giang province for their efforts to promote potential and strengths, rising to the second position in economic scale in the Mekong Delta region, with budget revenue reaching over 15,000 billion VND.
Emphasizing that the Plan approved by the Prime Minister has clearly indicated the development orientation and tasks to be implemented, the Deputy Prime Minister requested Kien Giang province, during the implementation process, to ensure compliance with the Plan but not rigidly; ensure synchronization with the National Master Plan, Regional Plan and other technical and specialized plans.
To effectively implement the Plan, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the province should develop a plan to implement the Plan; focus on widely promoting the Plan to people and businesses to create consensus, join hands, and contribute when implementing specific works and projects.
In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Kien Giang province continue to make good use of its marine economic potential; proactively implement road traffic projects while focusing on developing waterway traffic to improve the capacity of the local transport infrastructure system.
Kien Giang province needs to focus on increasing the proportion of industry in the local economic structure, focusing on calling for investment in the agricultural processing sector to bring agricultural processing closer to raw material areas to increase the value of agricultural production and prices of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market, bringing practical benefits to farmers, contributing to ensuring global food security - a position of Vietnam that many countries admire and want to learn from.
In addition, Kien Giang province needs to focus on attracting aquaculture projects to put an end to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, protect and develop marine resources, contribute to the whole country in soon removing the European Commission's (EC) seafood "yellow card", and protect and develop the country's sustainable fisheries industry.
Kien Giang province also needs to promote sustainable, high-quality tourism development, ensuring security, safety, and friendliness to the environment and tourists; properly manage Phu Quoc planning; and consider sea encroachment projects to expand development space.
In the development process, especially in the agricultural sector, the province needs to pay special attention to the issue of climate change, which is having a faster and more severe impact than predicted, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized./.
Kien Giang is one of 28 coastal provinces and cities of the country and one of 7 coastal provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta, with potential and strengths in developing marine and island economy.
In the period of 2016 - 2020, the proportion of marine economy accounts for 80% of the province's GRDP, in which agricultural and aquatic product exports grow by nearly 12%/year and contribute about 20%.
Tourism industry growth is nearly 16%/year; the number of tourists to Kien Giang accounts for about 20% of the region's tourists, revenue from Kien Giang's tourism industry increases by an average of 35%/year and contributes more than 30% to the province's overall growth.
First half of the 2021-2025 term, Despite facing many unprecedented difficulties and challenges, seriously affecting socio-economic development and people's lives, the province still maintained positive growth in 2021, reaching 7.5% growth in 2022 and estimated at 6.79% in 2023.
