At 19, I realized that childhood experiences play a crucial role in an individual's personal growth. I had an unforgettable childhood as a young athlete competing in the An Giang Provincial Karate Championship. I started practicing karate when I entered junior high school. I learned martial arts with the desire for self-defense, and even more so, to protect my loved ones. Initially, I asked my father to let me join a club near my home, offering both Vovinam and Taekwondo from Monday to Saturday every week. I also trained extra hours in a group led by the highest-ranking instructors at the club. My aptitude and diligence were highly appreciated by the instructors. My passion for martial arts intensified, laying the foundation for me to confidently learn this new discipline. When the instructors opened a karate class, I was entrusted with training with the goal of competing. The intense training process put a lot of pressure on me and my fellow students. In our group of young martial arts students, everyone won medals in both the forms and sparring events. That year, I personally won the gold medal in the mixed team forms event. The joy wasn't just about receiving my first ever prize money, but also about every moment spent side-by-side with my seniors and friends. It's a memory that's hard to put into words.
It was his passion for martial arts that gave Ba Hy strength every step of the way.
In college, I chose logistics instead of pursuing a professional athletic career. But those days of hard work in the arena equipped me with a proactive mindset and a relentless drive to improve. It's like, even when I don't know which moves are effective, I still keep fighting. Even with my arms and legs covered in bruises, I keep fighting. I fight for my teachers, my teammates, my loving family, and for myself. There were times I wanted to run away from opponents who were taller, stronger, and more experienced than me... but the burning desire to develop strongly gave me the motivation not to give up. Besides my studies, I still focus on improving my physical fitness, exploring other sports , and preparing myself to explore the world with a spirit of dedication and learning.
In my opinion, perseverance in one's chosen path and a forward-looking vision are essential qualities for young people.
