In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport , Kroos analyzed: “They are still lacking a player like me and are in the process of finding that. There are not many players like that on the transfer market. Talented faces in this position are also not easy to recruit."
Alonso has not brought in a central midfielder this summer. The former Leverkusen boss's priority is to strengthen his defence. New signings like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen give Alonso a solution in a defence that has been weakened by injuries.
According to AS , president Florentino Perez is said to have blocked the Martin Zubimendi deal from happening. Real Madrid were unwilling to pay 60 million euros for the Spanish international. In the end, Zubimendi chose to join Arsenal.
Currently, Alonso wants to turn Arda Guler into a central midfielder, capable of holding the rhythm and distributing the ball. However, this ambition needs more time to be verified.
"It takes time to see the changes and how Alonso's ideas are implemented. I'm sure he knows how to adjust things, because there are many things that need to change. With the quality of the squad, everything has to go smoothly," Kroos added.
Kroos and Alonso never played together at Real Madrid. They only met in 2014, when Kroos moved to the Bernabeu and Alonso moved to Bayern Munich.
