Supermarkets and shopping malls attract customers.

During the first few days of the April 30th and May 1st holiday, in addition to visiting entertainment venues, people also went to supermarkets and shopping malls for sightseeing and shopping. According to Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Director of Communications at Central Retail Vietnam (the company managing and operating the GO! supermarket chain), on the first day of the holiday, the number of customers visiting GO! supermarkets increased by approximately 25% compared to the same period last year.

Regarding the number of customers choosing supermarkets as their destination during the holiday, Nguyen Kim Dung, Director of Co.opmart Ha Dong supermarket, said that to attract consumers during the holiday, the Co.opmart supermarket system implemented many shopping promotion programs and organized discounts. The number of visitors and shoppers at the supermarket on the first day of the holiday increased by about 30% compared to a normal weekend. Notably, many customers from neighboring provinces also came to Hanoi to visit and shop.

Meanwhile, Mai Ngoc Quy, Director of WinMart Times City supermarket, said that the system's revenue on April 30th increased by 55% compared to a normal day and by 22% compared to the same period last year. The number of invoices increased by 30% compared to a normal day and by 27% compared to the same period, reflecting a significant increase in customer shopping frequency. “Purchasing power increased sharply, but supply and prices remained stable thanks to early preparation, including forecasting demand based on sales data and working with suppliers to ensure sufficient goods throughout the holiday. In addition, WinMart simultaneously implemented large-scale promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand…,” Mr. Mai Ngoc Quy informed.

According to Dinh Quang Khoi, Marketing Director of MM Mega Market supermarket chain, on April 30 alone, the entire system's revenue increased by more than 50% compared to the same period in 2025. Specifically, sales of dry goods and essential items doubled, while sales of fresh produce increased by nearly 18% compared to a normal day.

Not only were supermarkets selling essential consumer goods crowded, but large electronics supermarkets such as Pico, MediaMart, andFPT Shop also saw a surge in shoppers during the holidays. According to Dinh Van Hoan, director of MediaMart Thanh Xuan electronics supermarket, this is also the beginning of summer when consumers start buying air conditioners, so the demand for this item has increased sharply.

In fact, supermarkets in Hanoi such as GO!, Co.opmart, and Aeon Mall Long Bien... showed that during the first two days of the April 30th and May 1st holiday, they welcomed a large number of customers buying essential consumer goods. From as early as 9 am, customers were already present at supermarkets buying fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, and ready-made meals. At Aeon Mall Ha Dong, the number of people coming to shop and have fun continuously increased. Food courts and cinemas became popular attractions. Self-service kiosks at fast-food restaurants always had dozens of customers queuing...

Explaining the reasons why supermarkets and shopping malls attract so many customers, the Chairwoman of the Vietnam Retailers Association, Tran Thi Phuong Lan, stated that deep discounts and large price reductions are the most effective factors stimulating consumption. "Retailers have prepared thoroughly, launching many strong promotional programs to attract customers, while also creating conditions for people to spend comfortably and still save," said Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Lan.

Food prices at traditional markets have not increased.

The extended April 30th and May 1st holiday also provided an opportunity for families to hold celebrations, leading to increased purchasing power compared to normal days. However, there was no sudden surge in prices; in fact, some food items even saw a slight decrease.

Specifically, at Kim Lien market, pork loin is priced at 130,000 VND/kg; pork shoulder, belly, and leg are priced at 150,000 VND/kg; beef tenderloin at 300,000 VND/kg; beef shank at 270,000 VND/kg; and pork loin at 250,000 VND/kg. Seafood items are in a similar situation: tiger prawns are priced from 200,000-300,000 VND/kg depending on size; whole carp and grass carp at 100,000 VND/kg; fish fillets at 120,000 VND/kg; and black carp at 140,000-150,000 VND/kg.

Furthermore, while demand for green vegetables has increased, prices have not risen. Currently, leafy greens cost 10,000 VND/bunch; zucchini sells for 30,000 VND/kg; bitter melon costs 25,000 VND/kg; Chinese cabbage costs 16,000 VND/kg; and regular cabbage sells for 13,000 VND/kg. Small traders selling green vegetables generally agree that the stable prices are due to the harvest season, resulting in abundant supply and preventing price fluctuations.

International Labor Day on May 1st also coincides with the full moon of the third lunar month, so the demand for fruit for offerings increases significantly. In addition, the weather has started to get hot, leading to twice the consumption of watermelons and cantaloupes compared to normal days. However, despite the increased demand, the prices of these items remain the same as usual...

The above figures show that demand for holiday shopping remains high, especially as consumers tend to prepare thoroughly for family gatherings, travel , and spending at home.
