Celebrating 1,480 years since Ly Nam De ascended the throne

On February 21 (January 12, Giap Thin year), at the Giang Xa village Temple - Communal House relic complex, the Party Committee and government of Hoai Duc district, Hanoi City held a ceremony to celebrate the 1,480th anniversary of Ly Nam De's ascension to the throne and the founding of Van Xuan country.

Delegates offer incense to King Ly Nam De at Giang Xa communal house on the morning of February 21.

Also on this occasion, from January 12 to 14 of the year of the Dragon, Giang Xa village held a spring festival. This was the first time the festival was held at the district level.

According to legend and historical records, Giang Xa is where Ly Nam De grew up and was also where he raised the flag of uprising in 542. With the support of the people and the nobles of the regions, the prestige of the uprising army was very strong.

Villages bring gifts to King Ly Nam De

After only three months, the uprising launched by Ly Bi abolished the Liang Dynasty's protectorate government in Giao Chau. Next, he organized resistance against two Liang Dynasty attacks in the North and the invasion of the Lam Ap army in the South.

After defeating the Liang and Lam Ap armies, in January of the year Giap Ty 544, Ly Bi ascended the throne as Emperor, named the country Van Xuan, took the reign name Thien Duc, and built Van Tho Palace as the place for court meetings.

Ly Nam De ascended the throne for 4 years (544 - 548). After many battles with the enemy without victory, Ly Nam De retreated to Khuat Lao cave (now in Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province) to recuperate and died here.

Ly Nam De was not only the first Emperor of Vietnam, with a position comparable to the Chinese Emperors, but his founding of Van Xuan laid the foundation for Ly Cong Uan to later establish the capital in Thang Long.

To commemorate the merits of King Ly Nam De, Giang Xa villagers built Sinh Tu Temple right on their homeland. In 1989, the Giang Xa Temple - Communal House relic complex was ranked by the State as a National Historical and Cultural Relic.

Within the framework of the Giang Xa Spring Festival of Giap Thin 2024, there are many unique cultural and artistic activities and folk games. These include sacrificial rituals and processions of the holy palanquin according to local traditional customs, exhibitions of photos and documents on heritage, and booths displaying OCOP products of Hoai Duc district... to serve the people and tourists who come to visit the Spring Festival.
