Commemorating the 71st anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2025): Nghe An educates the young generation about revolutionary traditions and ideals

The historic victory of Dien Bien Phu (1954) is a brilliant milestone in the history of the struggle to build and defend the country of the Vietnamese people. The annual celebration is an opportunity to remember and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation, and is also an opportunity to educate the younger generation about revolutionary ideals, affirming the lasting value of national history and culture.

Pride of victory

In Nghe An, the Military Zone 4 Museum is one of the “red addresses” toeducate people of all walks of life, especially the younger generation, about revolutionary ideals and traditions. The museum has dedicated a room to display documents and artifacts about the resistance war against the French, including more than 60 documents and artifacts about the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

According to Colonel Tran Ngoc Quang - Director of Military Region 4 Museum, when visiting, most of the young cadres, soldiers and the youth generation were truly moved when witnessing the documents and artifacts about the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

That is the cart of Mr. Cao Van Ty ( Thanh Hoa province) used to carry goods to support the campaign, this cart once carried 320 kg of rice/trip, meeting the urgent needs of the battlefield; the artillery towing rope of Thanh Hoa laborers used to pull artillery into the battlefield to serve the campaign.

These are some parachute cloths used by officers and soldiers of Company 129 (Division 304) for combat camouflage, thereby demonstrating the intelligence, bravery and courage of soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army. The artifact also includes a backpack containing military equipment of soldier Nguyen Kim Son in Phuc Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district), belonging to Battalion 418 (Division 304).

In particular, the Museum also preserves a number of artifacts of the heroes and martyrs of Dien Bien Phu, such as the garrison shirt of Hero To Vinh Dien, who used his body to save the cannon; the explosive block - an initiative of Hero Phan Tu used to destroy the waterfall on the Nam Na River, clearing the way to transport food and weapons for the campaign; the bamboo hat of Hero and martyr Tran Can, who planted the "Determination to Fight and Victory" flag on the Him Lam position in the opening battle of the Dien Bien Phu campaign...

In addition to displaying artifacts and documents in the museum space, the Military Region 4 Museum also organizes experiential activities, mobile exhibitions to agencies, units and localities, online exhibitions, Dien Bien Phu storytelling contests, and publishes books on resistance war relics to serve cadres, soldiers, students and people.

With the advantage of being close and associated with vivid visuals, these activities have attracted the attention of many young people, helping them to understand more deeply the causes, developments and historical significance of the Dien Bien Phu victory.

Through organizing exhibitions and historical competitions, young people show their passion and pride in the victories of their ancestors. Through this, they are encouraged and motivated to make efforts in their studies, to be worthy of the glorious revolutionary tradition, and to contribute to building an increasingly prosperous and beautiful homeland and country.

Continue the story of peace

General Vo Nguyen Giap once said: "We need to promote the spirit of the Dien Bien Phu victory in the past in the cause of innovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland today."

Therefore, commemorating the Dien Bien Phu Victory aims to help the young generation have a deep mindset and awareness that every achievement that the young generation today enjoys was exchanged for the blood and bones of revolutionary predecessors and millions of Vietnamese children, so that they can take the right actions, be loyal to the Party, and firmly follow the revolutionary path that the Party, Uncle Ho and our people have chosen.

The Dien Bien Phu victory is a brilliant milestone in the nation's history, and for the youth of Nghe An - the homeland of beloved Uncle Ho, the education of revolutionary traditions from this historical event has always been of interest to the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, directing all levels of the provincial Youth Union to carry out many meaningful activities, focusing mainly on the youth union members, students, and pupils through meaningful programs and activities.

That is to direct the Youth Union at all levels to focus on activities towards red addresses, activities about the source, meeting historical witnesses; meeting and talking about traditions with veterans; and activities of the whole Union in May with the theme "Dien Bien Phu - a golden history".

Organizing contests to learn about the Dien Bien Phu victory in various forms such as Golden Bell, dramatization, online contests, etc., attracting a large number of union members and young people to participate.

The provincial level organized a journey to the source in Dien Bien Phu for key Youth Union officials in the province, presented solidarity houses to poor families in Dien Bien, and gave gifts to poor students who overcame difficulties to study well;...

Every year, on the anniversary, the Provincial Youth Union coordinates with the Department of Education and Training to organize activities such as responding to the contest "Painting by teenagers and children about the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the image of Dien Bien Phu today".

From the beginning of March to the end of May, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, the Provincial Pioneer Council, and the Provincial Student Association regularly launch and organize activities towards the anniversary.

The anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory is an opportunity for the entire Party, the entire army, the entire people in general and the young generation in particular to review the heroic traditional history of the nation, to better understand history to understand the value of peace.
