These days, the black grape garden of Dan Dam people, Hua Na commune, Than Uyen district is in the harvest season. The bunches of grapes are heavy, the plump fruits are changing color from green to purple-black, looking very eye-catching. It is known that this is the 4th harvest of the grape garden. It is known that this garden belongs to Ms. Lo Thi On, in collaboration with commune officials, Than Uyen District Youth Union, planted in a greenhouse since 2020, with an area of over 2,000m2. This year, the garden is expected to harvest more than 2 tons of fruit, with an estimated income of about 300 million VND.

In 2023, Ms. Lo Thi On's family's black grapes achieved 3-star OCOP product. Currently, the garden is open to attract tourists from inside and outside the district to experience, take photos, enjoy "clean" grapes and buy them as gifts. Ms. Thuy Anh - a tourist from Hanoi excitedly said: The vineyard here is very beautiful, the fruit is very delicious. We enjoyed clean grapes in the garden, feeling extremely happy.

From Than Uyen, we headed back to Tan Uyen - a locality with many fruits that have achieved the 3-star OCOP product of the province such as: Tan Uyen yellow melon; Hoang Lien Son melon; Quang Le guava, grapefruit, longan. We visited the fruit tree growing model of Mr. Phan Thanh Quang's family in group 5, Tan Uyen town. This season, the family's grapefruit, longan, and guava trees are laden with fruit.

Mr. Quang said: Taking advantage of the available garden land, in 2016, my family planted 250 longan trees and 300 green-skinned grapefruit trees. Realizing that the climate and soil are suitable for growing fruit trees, in 2018 I continued to experiment with planting 100 dragon fruit trees and 500 guava trees. Currently, his family's fruit trees all yield over 30 tons/year. Thanks to that, it brings a large source of income for the family.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung - Deputy Director of Tan Uyen District Agricultural Service Center said: Currently, the whole district is developing and expanding the fruit growing area of over 770 hectares in Tan Uyen town and the communes: Pac Ta, Nam So, Trung Dong... Currently, the district is calling on Lai Chau Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company to cooperate and consume products for more than 20 hectares of passion fruit; Khanh Thin Trading and Production Company Limited (Son La) cooperates with people to grow 52 hectares of jackfruit; Than Uyen Tea Joint Stock Company cooperates with Quang Ha Dien Bien Construction and Trading Investment Joint Stock Company to grow 30 hectares of Queen pineapple. Up to this point, the unit is also making a list of jackfruit and pineapple as the local key products so that people can enjoy support policies according to the projects and resolutions of the province.

Taking advantage of the year-round cool climate, suitable for temperate fruit trees such as peach, pear, plum, Tam Duong, Phong Tho, Sin Ho districts have been actively promoting and mobilizing people to expand the area of fruit trees associated with experiential tourism. Organizing exciting and attractive activities to attract more tourists to localities in the province.

Typically, recently, Giang Ma commune (Tam Duong district) organized the first pear picking festival with many diverse activities: pear harvesting, pear decoration, pear art, attracting thousands of tourists from inside and outside the province to attend. Previously, in Chu Lin village (Ho Thau commune), the highland villages of Nung Nang commune also attracted many people and tourists to visit and take pictures of plum and pear gardens in the picking season.

In order to motivate people to develop and expand fruit growing areas, in addition to propaganda and mobilization, the Department of Agriculture and localities in the province always accompany the people. Regularly send cadres to transfer science and technology to the people; guide households on how to care for, prevent pests and diseases and harvest fruit to ensure productivity and product quality. Take advantage of policies to support households with seedlings and agricultural materials.

On the other hand, the Department of Agriculture coordinates with authorities at all levels to encourage and support fruit growers who have harvested and produced quality products to participate in the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) program, gradually building the brand, "delicious and clean fruit" of Lai Chau to provide to consumers in and outside the province.

Currently, the province has 10 fruit products that meet the 3-star OCOP standard of the province, including: Tan Uyen yellow melon, Hoang Lien Son melon, Quang Le guava, Quang Le grapefruit, Quang Le longan (Tan Uyen); Tam Duong pear, Tam Duong passion fruit (Tam Duong); Phong Tho black summer grapes, Phong Tho peony grapes (Phong Tho); and black summer grapes (Than Uyen). These are products that have been and are being favored by people inside and outside the province.

In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture will coordinate with the districts to continue to mobilize people to expand the area of fruit trees. Plan each fruit tree area based on the advantages and potential of the locality. Focus on building chains to link and consume products for the people. From there, change the agricultural production mindset of the people in the highlands of Lai Chau, replacing ineffective crops with high-value crops; aiming for the new product of "green agricultural tourism".
