Increase in ransomware attacks.
According to cybersecurity experts, the first few months of 2024 saw a sharp increase in ransomware attacks. Hacker groups targeted many critical entities such as government agencies, financial institutions, energy companies, and various other industries.
VNPT, with its modern IDC system and team of engineers, helps enhance security capabilities for businesses, ensuring that systems are always protected to the highest standard.
According to recent research on ransomware, based on a survey of 5,000 IT professionals in 14 countries, ransomware attacks affect 59% of businesses. Notably, 91% of these attacks occur outside of business hours.
In the first three months of 2024 alone, the National Cyber Security Monitoring Center (NCSC) system recorded more than 13,000 ransomware-related information security incidents on information systems.
Several large businesses, such as PVOIL and VNDIRECT, and most recently in June 2024, Vietnam Post, have fallen victim to these attacks, causing serious property damage and disrupting business operations.
When businesses are forced to pay ransoms to hackers, it also sets a dangerous precedent, encouraging similar ransomware attacks in the future.
Measures to prevent ransomware
According to a representative from VNPT Group - a company trusted by many organizations and businesses for data protection and storage - customers should take the following measures to prevent ransomware attacks:
System review and cleanup: Inspect the entire system to prevent malware, especially on critical servers.
Regular software updates: Ensure all software, operating systems, and applications are updated to the latest versions to patch security vulnerabilities.
Use security software: Install and maintain antivirus software, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems (IDS) to prevent and detect attacks early.
Regular data backups: Review backup systems, implement a plan to completely separate the primary and backup systems, and establish a regular system backup schedule.
Develop an incident response plan: Have a cybersecurity incident response plan in place, including steps to take in the event of a ransomware attack, to minimize damage and restore operations quickly.
Training and awareness: Organize training sessions and workshops to raise employee awareness of information security. This helps reduce the risk of employees accidentally opening malicious emails or attachments.
Manage storage and back up data securely with these services.
Technology experts note that as ransomware threats become increasingly sophisticated and unpredictable, businesses need to raise awareness and strengthen their cybersecurity systems to protect their data assets from attacks. In addition, businesses should choose reputable IT partners to provide optimal solutions for infrastructure operation and data protection to prevent ransomware attacks.
Speaking to Giao Thong Newspaper, VNPT stated that some of its services can be used to protect businesses against ransomware attacks, such as: VNPT Cloud computing service: Providing data backup and recovery solutions on a cloud platform, helping businesses easily manage and protect their data.
VNPT Security Operations Center (SOC): VNPT's Security Operations Center (SOC) helps detect early signs of cyber intrusion and attacks, thereby enabling timely response and prevention of threats.
Cybersecurity consulting and training: VNPT provides cybersecurity consulting and training services to enhance businesses' security capabilities and ensure their systems are always optimally protected.
