On June 26, Na Duong Forest Ranger Station (Kim Hy Nature Reserve) organized a forest patrol and inspection in the Vai To Tam area and discovered an individual suspected to be a white-cheeked black langur, with characteristics: long tail, black fur, white cheeks, going down to the edge of the forest in the Reserve to forage, when discovered, it had gone up the rocky mountain.

Due to the remote terrain and dense forest, the working group could not take pictures or film images. Later, they heard many calls in the forest, suspected to be individuals in the herd signaling to each other.

Upon receiving the report from the Forest Ranger Station, the leaders of the Kim Hy Nature Reserve Management Board directed the Station to verify the incident.

Through verification, some households in the village working in the fields in Vai To Tam area occasionally saw a group of langurs appear around 8-9 am in the area of Van Lang commune.

After a period of monitoring and understanding the situation, at noon on July 10, the Management Board of Kim Hy Nature Reserve discovered and took close-up photos and videos of this individual. Thereby, it was determined that this was exactly the species of white-cheeked black langur, which was discovered and recorded for the first time in Kim Hy Nature Reserve .

Previously, the Reserve was also identified as the habitat of this rare animal. However, the authorities have never discovered, directly witnessed, or recorded images of them.

According to the Management Board of Kim Hy Nature Reserve, recently, some bears have been discovered reappearing after many years of absence.

The reserve is continuing to verify further numbers and implement protection measures.

Head of the Forest Ranger Department in charge of the Conservation Area Management Board, Le Xuan Dieu, said that the unit has coordinated directly with the leaders of the communes to propagate to the local people and directed the Forest Ranger Stations to increase patrols and inspections, especially in the areas where the langurs appear.

The reserve also put up signs prohibiting hunting wild animals to warn people not to chase away or harm the langurs. At the same time, the unit has focused on developing a plan to protect this globally endangered species.

It is known that in recent times, the management and protection of special-use forests in Bac Kan in general and Kim Hy Nature Reserve in particular have been carried out very well. Therefore, many rare species of animals and plants that were thought to be extinct have gradually reappeared.
