On April 12, at Xeo Me Pagoda (Vinh Phuoc Ward, Vinh Chau Town, Soc Trang Province), the Organizing Committee of the Soc Trang Provincial Military-Civilian Tet held a ceremony to organize activities "Soc Trang Military-Civilians celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay 2024."

This is the first year the province has organized a military-civilian New Year on the occasion of the Khmer people's Chol Chnam Thmay New Year.

According to Colonel Do Tien Sy, Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the Military-Civilian Tet of Soc Trang province, the Provincial Steering Committee chose Vinh Phuoc ward (Vinh Chau town) as a locality with a large Khmer ethnic population and a rich revolutionary tradition to organize military-civilian Tet activities at the time when people celebrate the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year.

On this occasion, the armed forces, together with provincial departments, branches and organizations, coordinated and joined hands with the locality to carry out many practical and meaningful activities to support and accompany the Khmer people to celebrate the traditional New Year joyfully and warmly; at the same time, deploy the construction of civil works, contributing to the construction of new rural areas, creating a new face for the homeland.

This year's military-civilian Tet activities to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay of the Khmer people in Soc Trang took place in Vinh Phuoc ward (Vinh Chau town) for 3 days (from April 12-14) with many practical activities such as propagating the commemoration of major holidays and important political events; propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, the Law on Military Service, the Law on Militia and Self-Defense Forces and the Law on Reserve Forces; and building and donating Great Unity houses.

In addition, there are medical examinations, medicine distribution; gift giving to policy families, poor and near-poor households, militia and self-defense forces, and reserve mobilization forces; scholarships and bicycles for poor Khmer students in coastal areas; organizing cultural and artistic exchange activities, sports and folk games...

This is a practical activity, demonstrating solidarity among ethnic groups; a great festival of the Khmer people, a happy day for the army and people of Vinh Chau town. Thereby, contributing to the good implementation of social security policies and military rear policies; creating a joyful, warm and affectionate atmosphere; continuing to encourage, motivate and further strengthen the solidarity and close relationship between the army and the people, promoting the fine tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Celebrating the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year in the new Great Unity house, Mr. Thach Hoan Son (Khmer ethnic, Vinh Phuoc ward, Vinh Chau town) was moved to share that this is a meaningful gift, a motivation and support for his family to continue to strive to improve and stabilize their lives.

Mr. Son said that due to the difficult life, he had to carry loads every day to earn a living. Therefore, building a new house was his family's dream. He was very excited to receive the new house on the occasion of Chol Chnam Thmay, the traditional New Year. He expressed his gratitude to the local leaders and sectors for prioritizing support and taking care of the lives of the Khmer people who are still in difficulty.

At the Departure Ceremony, all levels, sectors, organizations and sponsors presented many meaningful gifts such as Great Solidarity houses, comrade houses, scholarships for poor students, gifts for poor households, etc. with a value of hundreds of millions of VND. In addition, the Organizing Committee cut the ribbon to inaugurate a number of rural bridges and roads, organized cleaning and clearing of many rural roads, and lit up the country roads.

Provincial leaders visited, presented gifts, and wished a Happy New Year to monks at pagodas, policy households, and poor households in Vinh Chau town./.
