US closes deal for Oracle to manage TikTok algorithm

On September 22, an official in the administration of President Donald Trump said that technology corporation Oracle will receive and operate a copy of TikTok's algorithm for users in the US, within the framework of a deal being finalized.

The algorithm, currently owned by Chinese company ByteDance, is considered a key factor in negotiations over TikTok's future, amid concerns that Beijing could interfere with or manipulate the content displayed to users.

The official said the plan would address national security concerns. Details on the investment were not fully disclosed, but it was confirmed that private equity fund Silver Lake was among the participants.

Previously, President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan law requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok's US assets to an American company or the app would be banned.

After taking office, President Trump has repeatedly extended the deadline to push for an agreement, and had a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 19 about this issue./.
