Although he has been gone for 24 years, Trinh Cong Son's philosophy in music continues to resonate in the souls of many generations.

Immortal musical heritage

When mentioning Trinh Cong Son, we cannot help but mention his songs full of poetry, philosophy and humanity. He left behind more than 600 songs, many of which have become immortal, living forever in the hearts of the public such as: Diem Xua, Bien Nho, Cat Bui, Con Tuoi Sao Cho Em, Ha Trang, Mot Gioi Di Ve...

Musician Cao Hong Son, Music Department, Dong Nai Literature and Arts Association, said that he and musician Trinh Cong Son had the chance to meet, exchange and perform music together. Trinh Cong Son has an admirable musical legacy, writing a lot about love, but those are not the usual sweet love songs, but carry a melancholy sadness, an unending longing... Many of the musician's musical works are full of impermanence and philosophy, making listeners wonder, the more they listen, the more attractive they become.

“Trinh Cong Son’s music is not loud, not flashy, but gentle, penetrating deep into people’s hearts like a reminder: live slowly, love more and cherish every moment in life. Each song is a separate world , opening up different levels of emotions in the hearts of listeners” - musician Cao Hong Son shared.

More than two decades after Trinh Cong Son left this world, his musical legacy still lives on in the hearts of the public. In particular, many young people today still seek out Trinh's music as a peaceful place amidst the hustle and bustle of life. They sing Trinh's music in a new style but still retain the soul in each lyric and each melody.

Mr. Tran Viet Liem (living in Phuoc Tan ward, Bien Hoa city) is a mechanical engineer but he has a passion for art, including Trinh's music. Mr. Liem said he has listened to Trinh's music since he was a child. His parents often played songs on the radio like Diem Xua, Cat Bui... Although he did not understand all the lyrics, he felt the gentleness and depth in each melody.

“Since listening to Trinh’s music, I fell in love with Trinh’s music without realizing it. When I grew up, I taught myself to play the guitar so that I could accompany all of Trinh Cong Son’s songs that I loved. Listening to Trinh’s music, I feel like I am slowing down, thinking more about life and the simple things around me. Trinh’s music is also a source of inspiration for me to compose new, profound and poetic songs,” said Liem.

On the afternoon of April 1, at Nguyen Van Binh Book Street (Ho Chi Minh City), a program will take place to commemorate musician Trinh Cong Son with the theme: Children's song for peace 2025. The program will gather many famous artists such as: saxophone artist Tran Manh Tuan, Cam Van, Duc Tuan, Viet Thu, Tan Son, Trinh Vinh Trinh...

Spreading the love of Trinh's music in Dong Nai

Trinh music lovers in all provinces and cities across the country still regularly hold concerts in memory of Trinh Cong Son every year to commemorate the anniversary of his death. In Dong Nai, Tran Bien Assembly Hall (Bien Hoa City) is one of the familiar places where a portrait of the late musician Trinh Cong Son is displayed. For many years, that space has also become an address for Trinh music lovers, like-minded souls, to sing together the lyrics that have touched people's hearts.

In many places in Bien Hoa - Dong Nai, from big stages to small coffee shops such as: Twins Corner coffee shop hidden in Amber Court (Thong Nhat ward), Loc Phat coffee shop (Tan Hiep ward), Kim Nguyen coffee shop (Trang Dai ward)... kindred spirits together sing the familiar melodies of Trinh Cong Son.

Master Phan Thanh Tuan, lecturer at Dong Nai University of Technology, Chairman of Dong Nai Music and Arts Club, said that every year, on April 1, club members often gather at coffee shops in Bien Hoa city to exchange and perform Trinh Cong Son's songs. Most of the participants are not professional artists, but just people who are in tune with Trinh's music, sharing and reminiscing about a talented musician.

Musician Trinh Cong Son once said: “I am just a wandering singer passing through this land to sing my premonitions about the illusory dreams of life”. And it is those melodies and lyrics that have touched the hearts of many generations, so that even though he has left this temporary world, his music will forever remain as a “land to return to” for those who
in love...
