The Vietnamese speech and art contest organized annually by Quang Tri Medical College is an impressive demonstration, creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere, practicing the application of Vietnamese for all students in the whole school in general and Lao students in particular during their time studying and living in Vietnam; enhancing the cultural exchange between Vietnam and Laos among the school's students.

Quang Tri Medical College has just organized the 3rd Vietnamese Speech and Performing Arts Contest in 2025. After the previous preliminary round, the organizing committee selected 9 speeches and 9 performances to participate in the final round. The contestants are Vietnamese and Lao students studying at Le Duan Political School and Quang Tri Medical College. At the contest, the contestants participated in 2 parts: speech and performing arts.

The contest content is rich and diverse, such as praising the traditions, history, culture... of Vietnam and Laos; feelings about the people, nature, and landscapes of Vietnam and Laos; experiences in learning Vietnamese; memories of Laotian students studying and living in Vietnam. With careful and elaborate preparation, the speaking and performing arts performances of the participating teams left a lasting impression on those who came to watch and cheer. The organizing committee awarded prizes to the outstanding teams.

Thipphaphon, a contestant who participated and won first prize with his team in both the third Vietnamese speech and art contest in 2025, is currently studying in Pharmacy class K8, Quang Tri Medical College and happily said: "I am very proud to be able to study Pharmacy at Quang Tri Medical College.

During my studies and activities at school, I received a lot of attention from the school, teachers, and Vietnamese friends in many aspects, creating the best conditions during my study time, especially enthusiastically guiding and teaching Vietnamese. The contest is a useful playground, creating conditions for me to exchange and learn more about the rich vocabulary of Vietnamese, thereby increasing my love for the culture and history of Vietnam.

While studying in the Intermediate Political Theory class, course 14 at Le Duan Political School, when he heard about this meaningful competition, Minta immediately registered to join the school's team. Although he had not been in Vietnam for long, with his efforts in studying, his Vietnamese was quite good, and he was selected by the team to participate in the debate competition.

“This is truly an opportunity to learn more about the social life of Vietnam in general and Quang Tri province in particular. Through that, I feel proud to learn Vietnamese; understand more deeply about the special relationship between Laos and Vietnam; and the unique cultural traditions of our two countries,” Minta shared.

Implementing the cooperation plan between Quang Tri province and the two provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan (Lao PDR), since 2017, Quang Tri Medical College has been assigned by the Provincial People's Committee to support the training of nursing and pharmacy college level for students from the two neighboring provinces. To create favorable conditions for living, the school always closely contacts the Dormitory Management Board of Hue University Branch to arrange a complex for all Lao students.

Thereby, helping Laotian students improve their ability to practice using Vietnamese through communication. Each class is arranged with Vietnamese students to help them improve their Vietnamese and the quality of studying specialized subjects. The school also cooperates with Quang Tri Pedagogical College to organize first-year Vietnamese language training according to the 6-level Vietnamese language competency framework of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The two schools regularly organize seminars to improve the quality of management work, organize Vietnamese language training in specialized training for Laotian students; compile Vietnamese textbooks for medical and pharmaceutical subjects to help students grasp the profession and understand lessons better. Before Laotian students enter their majors, the school organizes a Vietnamese proficiency test to assess each student's Vietnamese ability, from which a review plan and Vietnamese tutoring plan for weak students will be established on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Thereby, helping students become more confident before entering specialized studies. In order to help Lao students improve their ability to use Vietnamese in communication and record social knowledge, contributing to improving their Vietnamese language skills and the quality of learning in specialized subjects, the school organizes extracurricular activities for Lao students at historical and cultural sites in and outside the province. In each semester and each school year, the school always promptly rewards students with high achievements in studying and in the school's emulation movements.

Despite initial difficulties in language, living conditions, and cultural differences, with the enthusiastic help of all levels and sectors inside and outside the province, of the school's teaching staff and students, of organizations and businesses, most Laotian international students have overcome language and cultural barriers and completed their studies.

Many international students have achieved high academic results and are also good at Vietnamese, including many students receiving scholarships from the school, sponsored scholarships, and awards from organizations and individuals... Up to now, Quang Tri Medical College has had 9 college courses for Lao international students with a total of 297 students from 4 neighboring provinces: Savannakhet, Salavan, Kham Muon and Champasac. Since then, 215 Lao international students have graduated.

Principal of Quang Tri Medical College Truong Duc Tu said: "In training Lao students, the school always determines that the key factor determining the quality of training is the students' Vietnamese language proficiency.

Therefore, improving Vietnamese language proficiency is always considered an important and continuous task in the training process at the school such as: Building training programs and plans with the Vietnamese language teaching unit, Quang Tri Pedagogical College. Increasing Vietnamese language teaching time for international students. Directing the school's youth union to build and maintain support for Laotian international students to improve their Vietnamese. Increasing study tours and practical training for international students...".
