My Dong Foundry Village

(CMO) My Dong Casting Village is a traditional craft village in My Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city. The My Dong casting craft originated in the 20th century and became famous in 1938 when artisans in the village made a tail balancing component, called a "counterweight turtle" (weighing about 1 ton), for a foreign ship that had broken down in Hai Phong port.

Once known as a craft village "known to the king and remembered nationwide," My Dong is now one of the few localities with a craft village industrial zone, and one of the largest craft villages producing mechanical goods for domestic and export markets.
