With just over two weeks left until the 2026 high school graduation exam, the classrooms at Bac Lieu Ethnic Boarding High School are brightly lit every evening. In this quiet space, students diligently review their lessons with the dedicated guidance of their teachers. For many ethnic minority students, this is not just the exam season, but also a journey of daily effort to achieve their dreams.

Serious self-study hours

At 7 PM, after dinner, the schoolyard gradually quieted down. Groups of 12th-grade students took their books and went back to their classrooms for self-study time. The classes lasted until 9 PM. There was no bell signaling the start of the lesson, and no teacher in the classroom, but every room was serious, everyone diligently reviewing for the upcoming exam.

In each class, the class monitor or vice-president coordinates group study sessions in place of the teacher. Some solve math problems, others review literature, and other groups correct English exercises. The atmosphere is one of intense but orderly and focused revision. For the students, evening time is especially precious as the most important exam of their student life is fast approaching.

Even without a teacher in the classroom, the group study rooms maintain a serious and disciplined study routine every evening.

Being far from family and lacking the direct encouragement of parents, many boarding school students sometimes felt disheartened during the stressful exam preparation period. However, the collective learning environment helped them learn to unite and support each other to progress together.

Huynh Chi Vy, a student in class 12X1, shared: "I plan to apply to the Border Guard Academy. Besides attending classes, I also study online, look for additional materials, and discuss homework with my friends every night. Sometimes I feel sad because I don't have family by my side, but I tell myself I have to try harder."

“Every night we study together, do homework, and share knowledge with each other. Having friends to work hard with makes me feel less stressed. My goal is to get into the History Education program,” said Tang Minh Tri, a student in class 12X2.

The light of responsibility and love

Behind the brightly lit classrooms each evening lies the quiet dedication of the teaching staff. As a boarding school, the teachers not only teach academics but also act as parents, caring for the students' well-being and psychological needs throughout the school year.

The classrooms at Bac Lieu Ethnic Boarding High School are regularly lit from 7 PM to 9 PM every night.

Regularly from 7 PM to 9 PM each evening, the school assigns teachers and administrators to monitor students' self-study habits. Cases of tardiness or neglect of studies are recorded so that homeroom teachers can promptly remind and encourage students.

Mr. Du Quoc Kiet, Principal of Bac Lieu Ethnic Boarding High School, said: “During the final exam preparation period, the school closely monitors students' learning. Many teachers proactively dedicate extra time in the evenings to tutor students at risk of failing the graduation exam, helping them consolidate their knowledge and stabilize their psychology before the exam.”

Beyond classroom lectures and extra tutoring sessions, teachers' support is also demonstrated through their inquiries after class, their concern for meals and sleep, and their understanding of the psychological pressures students face during exam season. For many students far from home, the teachers here have become a special source of emotional support on their journey to adulthood.

The atmosphere in the evening classes was orderly and focused during the revision sessions.

Amidst the stressful exam preparation days, the lights at Bac Lieu Ethnic Boarding High School not only illuminate the evening study sessions but also symbolize effort, love, and faith in the future.
