Therefore, many people have switched to handicrafts, they pass on their skills to each other, gradually forming craft villages. That craft village is a traditional profession and a characteristic of the countryside of Binh Thuan province.
Each craft village has its own characteristics.
In Binh Thuan, what everyone can see is that each locality has its own craft village, each craft village produces a different traditional handicraft product, each with its own unique characteristics. Up to now, in Binh Thuan province, there are over 10,146 rural craft establishments operating with over 50,000 workers participating in main industries such as brick and tile production, sugar cane production, rice paper, brocade weaving, ceramics, seafood processing, fish sauce, rattan weaving, wood and forest product processing...
Traditional craft villages have created more jobs, brought stable income to workers, contributed to poverty reduction for people in rural areas and made use of local raw materials to create goods with high economic value. In particular, traditional craft villages such as pottery, rice paper making, bamboo and rattan weaving, brocade weaving, seafood processing, salt production, wood carving... have contributed greatly to the work of preserving and promoting national cultural values, building a cultural tourism environment, promoting tourism, promoting economic exchange activities, attracting investment in the production sector of craft villages.
Currently in Binh Thuan, there are still 3 traditional craft villages that have existed for a long time and are still in production: Phu Long rice paper craft village, Cho Lau rice paper craft village and Binh Duc go pottery craft village. Accordingly, the craft of making rice paper by hand is associated with Phu Long rice paper craft village in Phu Long town, Ham Thuan Bac district and Cho Lau rice paper craft village in Cho Lau town, Bac Binh district. Binh Duc go pottery craft village, in Phan Hiep commune, Bac Binh district, has existed for a long time and has been maintained by Cham families for many generations. The traditional go pottery craft village has been awarded a certificate by UNESCO and listed "Cham pottery making art on the list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection".
Support and promote traditional craft villages
Although the development of traditional craft villages in the province has made significant contributions to socio-economic development and tourism in recent years, there are still some limitations that need to be overcome. Accordingly, the use of old and outdated machinery and equipment, unattractive products, outdated designs, high prices due to manual work, and poor competitiveness. In addition, people are not interested in traditional occupations due to low income compared to other enterprises and non-agricultural occupations, leading to some craft villages having to dissolve or change their functions... Given the above situation, the Provincial People's Committee has had a number of solutions to develop rural occupations and preserve and develop traditional craft villages in the period of 2021 - 2025 and orientation to 2030. Accordingly, the province will promptly concretize and implement policies to encourage the development of rural occupations and craft villages of the Central and the province in accordance with the actual situation of the locality. Create conditions to support rural industry production establishments to access incentive and support policies on training, technical training, technology transfer, trademark registration, tax policies, loans, training, and vocational training. At the same time, promote the application of science, gradually innovate technology in production, prioritize the fields of preservation and processing of agricultural products, handicrafts, create conditions for organizations and individuals in craft villages to participate in research and apply new technologies to improve product quality. Encourage economic sectors and enterprises to invest in agricultural and rural industries, create conditions for production establishments to upgrade and invest in new technologies. Strengthen state management of the development of rural industries and craft villages, focusing on calling for and attracting investment in the province's advantageous products. Promoting economic exchange activities, trade promotion, brand promotion, strengthening communication on the preservation and development of craft villages to contribute to preserving the cultural identity of the locality. Especially restoring and developing craft villages, traditional occupations, developing new occupations suitable for each locality. With synchronous solutions, supporting the promotion of occupations in rural areas, traditional craft villages, in the coming time will contribute to diversifying industry products, solving employment, increasing income for people, especially people in mountainous areas, ethnic minority areas.
