Lao Cai: Temporarily detaining more than 10 tons of smuggled frozen food

Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs (Customs Sub-Department of Region VII) said that the unit has presided over and coordinated the temporary detention of imported frozen food shipments of unknown origin with a volume of more than 10 tons.

At about 23:55, on the evening of August 16, 2025, at the Quarantine Area of Lao Cai International Border Gate Management Center, Lao Cai Ward, Lao Cai Province, Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs presided over and coordinated with Lao Cai International Border Gate Border Control Station and Customs Control Team (Customs Sub-Department of Region VII) to patrol and control in the quarantine area of Lao Cai International Border Gate.

During the patrol and inspection, the patrol team discovered 86 foam boxes sealed with yellow tape, and 120 pineapple sacks hidden. However, the owner of the shipment has not been identified.

The patrol team inspected all the goods contained in 86 foam boxes and 120 pineapple sacks. Upon inspection, they discovered items of unknown origin, with foreign characters printed on the bags, containing frozen food, weighing 10,509 kg including Chinese sausage, young chicken eggs, and pig brain...

Frozen goods are packed in sacks and sealed foam boxes.

Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs said that the method and tricks used by the subjects in the violation were to break up and transport goods without legal documents originating from China into Vietnam for consumption.

Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs has drawn up a record and temporarily detained the entire shipment for handling according to the provisions of law.
