Tuong Duong, Luong Minh, My Ly and Nhon Mai are the four communes that were heavily affected by the historic flood after storm No. 3, with more than 400 houses completely swept away, causing heavy damage to the locality and its people. The storm left behind flash floods and landslides that disrupted traffic, damaged houses, swept away many properties and seriously affected people's lives.
Vinamilk 's relief team arrived promptly, bringing 500 cartons of milk and nearly 400 gifts including backpacks, notebooks, pens and school supplies to the people and students in the flooded areas. These were not only material gifts, but also the care and sincere feelings sent from the hearts of thousands of Vinamilk staff and employees.
After the flood, the road leading to the highland communes of Tuong Duong, Luong Minh, My Ly, and Nhon Mai became extremely difficult. The sun was blazing hot, the heat was nearly 40 degrees sweltering on every inch of skin, but the working group still persevered through landslides, muddy soil, and jagged rocks.
Although the storm has passed, the devastation is still everywhere, people are still struggling to recover from the flood, with many hardships and shortages. After two weeks, many landslides have stopped vehicles, goods are passed by hand over difficult roads.
The first destination of the delegation was Thach Duong Village (Tuong Duong Commune, Nghe An Province ) located on the banks of the Lam River. This is one of the villages that suffered the most damage in the recent storm and flood. More than 110 households here were affected, many houses and properties were swept away or severely damaged.
Mr. Nguyen Danh Dao, Director of Nghe An Milk Factory (belonging to Vinamilk) and members of the delegation visited, encouraged and gave milk and gifts to people in Tuong Duong commune, hoping that people will quickly stabilize their lives.
Vinamilk representative, Mr. Trinh Xuan Dat, Chairman of the Trade Union of Nghe An Dairy Factory, shared: “Behind each milk box and gift is the heart of Vinamilk people. We hope that this companionship will be a source of encouragement for people to be more steadfast and children to continue going to school and nurturing their dreams.”
Continuing the journey, the delegation arrived at Luong Minh commune. The cartons of milk and gifts were handed to the people and students, giving them more energy after many days of deprivation. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Luong Minh commune (Nghe An), on behalf of the local people, expressed his deep gratitude to Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) and the entire delegation.
Traveling more than 150km, the working group arrived at the border commune of My Ly. This is one of the localities that suffered the most serious damage with more than 200 houses completely swept away by the flood. The gifts, milk boxes and sincere words of encouragement helped to ease the pain of loss of the people here. “The flood swept everything away and now we are left with nothing, not knowing where to turn. In the midst of the most difficult time, Vinamilk traveled a long distance to bring milk and gifts to our people. The gifts not only help us reduce our poverty but also provide us with spiritual encouragement, giving us more confidence to get up and start our lives over again.” – Ms. Vi Thi Luong (My Ly commune) shared.
Closing the journey, the delegation arrived at Nhon Mai commune - a mountainous commune with many difficulties in transportation and life. Cartons of milk and gifts continued to be handed out to the people and students here.
Amidst all the hardships, the dirty faces and eyes that had been bewildered by the flood suddenly lit up with joy when the working group brought gifts from Vinamilk, especially gifts for the children. In the children's eyes, there was not only the joy of receiving gifts, but also hope - hope for a better new school year, even though the storm had turned everything upside down. It was a moment that made all the hardships on the long journey seem light, because faith and love were always present, after the stormy days.
Mr. Nguyen Danh Dao, Director of Nghe An Milk Factory (under Vinamilk), shared: “Only when we get there and witness the damage can we see how terrible the natural disaster is and how miserable the people in the flood-affected areas are. Although the 2 days of the program were very tiring, traveling hundreds of kilometers of forest roads, seeing the joy of the people after the delegation shared and encouraged us, we found the trip very meaningful.”
Recently, Moc Chau Milk (a member of Vinamilk) also implemented emergency support activities for people in flood-hit areas in Son La province, donating 200 cartons of milk and more than 50 million VND in cash contributed by the company's staff and employees, with a total support value of up to 127 million VND.
This is a practical action to share difficulties with people severely affected by floods, while providing more nutrition and motivation for people to soon stabilize their lives after natural disasters.
