In the recent high school graduation exam, Lang Duc Bang (residing in Mau Thach commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An , a student at Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2) scored 29 points in block C00, including 9.25 in Literature; 9.75 in History and 10 points in Geography. With a total priority score of 29.37, he passed his first choice to enter the Border Guard Academy - the school that Bang always dreamed of since childhood, the pride of his parents, teachers and villagers.

However, a few days after enrolling, the school's health check-up results showed that Bang had hepatitis B. The school created conditions for him to be treated at the hospital for 11 days, but the test results were still positive. On September 27, according to the regulations of the Ministry of National Defense , he was forced to return to his hometown.

Talking to VietNamNet reporter , Bang said that before registering for the Border Guard Academy exam, he had participated in the preliminary examination in the district but had not yet discovered any illness.

"When the school announced that I had to return to my hometown, I felt sad and desperate. Even though I tried my best, I still couldn't fulfill my dream," the male student said.

Bang said he was lost and didn't know what to do with the time ahead.

"I passed NV1 to enter the Border Guard Academy but could not continue my studies. As for my second choice to study History Pedagogy at Vinh University, the admission portal has been closed since September 16. I wrote a letter to the Minister of Education and Training to ask for consideration for my study opportunity, but I am still waiting for the results," Bang shared.

Lang Duc Bang is the only son in a poor family in Ke Me village, Mau Thach commune. Throughout his high school years, he always strived to improve himself. In August 2025, Bang was one of 75 excellent students in the high school graduation exam recognized by the People's Committee of Nghe An province.

In the application sent to the Minister of Education and Training, Bang confided his simple circumstances and dreams. The neatly handwritten lines contained regret and a desire to continue going to school: “I am an ethnic minority, my family's circumstances are difficult, my parents work hard all year round in farming. Therefore, I always try to study, hoping to enter the Police, Military or Pedagogical schools to help my parents reduce the burden of tuition fees. My dream was just a little bit away but suddenly became distant. I respectfully hope that the leaders at all levels will consider and create conditions for me to study my second choice - the Faculty of History, Vinh University, so that I do not miss the opportunity to study due to force majeure...”.

Ms. Ho Thi Hoi, Lang Duc Bang's homeroom teacher when he studied at Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2, said that Bang was a good and excellent student who always overcame difficulties in life.

“I passed the Border Guard Academy exam, but when I was re-examined for health, the school sent me back. Currently, I am struggling with no direction because the NV2 and NV3 admission portals have been closed for a long time. Since my family is poor, Bang has dreamed of becoming a soldier or a teacher since he was young - both to contribute and to reduce the burden of tuition fees, helping him pursue his university studies,” said Ms. Hoi.

She expressed her hope that the Ministry of Education and Training and Vinh University would consider and create opportunities for Bang to continue pursuing his university career and nurture his dreams.

Why do military schools only accept NV1 applicants?

On the afternoon of March 16, the School Department, General Staff held a press conference on military school enrollment in 2018.
