In recent times, the management, protection, and fire prevention and control of forests have continued to receive attention from the provincial government and people. The entire forested area in the province is basically well managed and protected; functional forces maintain a constant on-call system according to the "four on-the-spot" principle, ready to promptly handle any arising situations.

In the first seven months of 2025, four forest fires occurred in the province, damaging 5,940 m² of natural forest and 9,870 m² of planted trees. The main cause was people burning fields for cultivation, causing fires to spread into the forest.
Around the same time, in the two villages of Lang Cu and Lang Tat (Bac Ha commune), 1.8 hectares of cinnamon trees aged 2-6 years were damaged by beetles.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lao Cai province, in the first seven months of 2025, the entire province protected nearly 493,000 hectares of various types of forests, including protection forests, special-use forests, production forests, and natural forests. Forest planting efforts yielded positive results with over 11,735 hectares of concentrated forest, nearly 7 million scattered trees, and nearly 8,200 hectares of regenerated forest under cultivation.
