Special Opening Ceremony

A moment of silence was observed in remembrance of the compatriots and soldiers who perished in Typhoon No. 3 (Typhoon Yagi ) during the opening ceremony of Ton Duc Thang University this morning.

This morning (September 20th), Ton Duc Thang University held its opening ceremony for the new academic year 2024-2025.

As the whole country turned its attention to the North, which was severely affected and damaged by Typhoon No. 3, the opening ceremony of Ton Duc Thang University took place in a special way: no congratulatory flowers, no welcoming musical performances, and the program began with a minute of silence to remember the compatriots and soldiers who sacrificed their lives due to Typhoon No. 3.

Prior to the opening ceremony, the school also announced that it would not accept congratulatory flowers and wished to donate the proceeds to the Fund for Supporting People in Northern Vietnam of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. The entire staff, faculty, and students also actively participated in contributing activities to provide practical support to those affected by natural disasters and floods.

Over 2,000 international students come to study.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Rector of Ton Duc Thang University, stated that in the 2023-2024 academic year, the university maintained a training scale of over 26,000 students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The university issued graduation decisions and awarded diplomas to 6 doctoral candidates, 87 master's students, and 6,878 undergraduate students. Of these, over 9% graduated with excellent and good grades; 61% graduated with fair grades. The employment rate for graduates within 12 months of graduation reached over 99%, with nearly 83% working in fields related to their training.

Emphasizing internationalization efforts, the Rector of Ton Duc Thang University stated that during the past academic year, the university welcomed 2,066 international students for full-time programs, short-term exchanges, and cultural exchanges. Simultaneously, the university facilitated study, internships, and exchanges for 1,013 students abroad.

The Rector of Ton Duc Thang University conveyed a message to new students: "Nothing is impossible if you dare to think and dare to act."

Regarding student sports activities, Dr. Tran Trong Dao shared: "With the motto of educating well-rounded individuals, in addition to good professional skills for effective work, physical training, the ability to withstand high pressure, loyalty, and discipline are fundamental principles of the school. Therefore, the school has invested in sports training as the main solution to help students have a healthy physique, which helps them achieve better academic results."

With this goal in mind, Dr. Tran Trong Dao stated that the university has organized many major student sports activities, including the 2nd National Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament - THACO Cup, which left a strong impression on universities nationwide due to its professional organization and the friendly image of its students…

In 2024, Ton Duc Thang University recruited more than 6,800 students, achieving over 99% of its target.

Sharing his thoughts with the students, Dr. Tran Trong Dao hoped that the new students would quickly familiarize themselves with the university environment, integrate into the culture and student community, and proactively research, study, and explore knowledge. He encouraged them to actively develop skills to become global citizens, scientists, engineers, graduates, architects, and pharmacists who can serve society.

"Nothing is difficult if you dare to think and dare to act. Let that saying be your guiding principle for your university journey. Set clear goals, build an effective study plan, and always seek opportunities to learn and grow. Don't worry or be afraid; the faculty will always be by your side to help you integrate into a dynamic, creative, yet challenging learning environment," the Rector of Ton Duc Thang University advised.
