Officials, civil servants, and employees will have a four-day holiday for the National Day on September 2nd, 2023.
National Day holiday schedule for 2023
According to document 8056/VPCP-KGVX dated December 1, 2022, from the Government Office , the National Day holiday will be from September 1, 2023, to September 4, 2023.
Government leaders have requested that agencies and units implementing the above holiday schedule arrange their working departments appropriately to ensure continuous work and provide good service to organizations and the public.
The Government leaders authorize the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to announce the National Day holiday schedule for 2023.
Acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has issued a notice stating that civil servants and public employees will be on holiday for National Day 2023 from Friday, September 1, 2023 to Monday, September 4, 2023.
This holiday period includes two days of National Day, one weekly day off, and one compensatory day off for a weekly day off as stipulated in the Labor Code.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs requests that agencies and units implementing the 2023 National Day holiday schedule take note of the following: Arrange and organize working departments appropriately to ensure continuous work and provide good service to organizations and the public.
Agencies and units that do not follow a fixed Saturday and Sunday weekly holiday schedule will base their holiday arrangements on their specific programs and plans.
For employees who are not civil servants or public officials, the employer decides which option to choose for the 2023 National Day holiday.
Accordingly, employees will have Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 off and can choose one of two days: Friday, September 1st, 2023 or Sunday, September 3rd, 2023.
If a weekly day off coincides with a public holiday, employees are entitled to a compensatory day off on the following working day, as stipulated in the Labor Code.
* Previously, during the April 30th and May 1st holidays in 2023, workers received 5 consecutive days off because April 30th and May 1st were close to the Hung Kings Commemoration Day holiday. The reason for the 5-day holiday was that, in addition to the 3 official holidays (Hung Kings Commemoration Day, Victory Day, and International Labor Day), workers, students, civil servants, and public employees received 2 extra days off because Hung Kings Commemoration Day (April 29th) and Victory Day (April 30th) fell on a Saturday and Sunday. The holiday began on April 29th, 2023, and lasted until May 3rd, 2023.
The regulations regarding the Hung Kings Commemoration Day holiday have been in effect since 2007. According to the current Labor Code of 2019, the total number of public holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays for employees in a year is stipulated as 11 days.
According to the 2023 holiday schedule, workers will have three long holidays in 2023: the Lunar New Year holiday (Year of the Rabbit) lasting 7 days in January 2023; the Hung Kings Commemoration Day holiday (March 30th and May 1st); and the National Day holiday in 2023.
