Le Tien Anh causes surprise in Roland Garros Junior qualifying round

Vietnamese tennis player Le Tien Anh defeated the second seed in the Roland Garros Junior qualifying round to create the first surprise in China on the afternoon of August 18.

Le Tien Anh is the only representative from Southeast Asia to participate in the qualifying round of Roland Garros Junior Series by Renault in East - East Asia and Southeast Asia 2025.

The Roland Garros Junior qualifiers took place in Hainan, China from August 18 to 23. This was an important milestone as Vietnam had the only representative from Southeast Asia participating.

The tournament is part of the Roland-Garros Junior Series system, organized by the French Tennis Federation (FFT) in collaboration with the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) to find places to France.

In the opening match, Tien Anh met the second seed of the tournament, Indian tennis player Ranvir Singh. Tien Anh won 2-1 with the scores of 6-3, 5-7 and 6-2.

This victory is very important not only for the player of the Army Club. It opens up the opportunity for Le Tien Anh to go further in the tournament if he can maintain his playing form.

Le Tien Anh, born in 2011, is known as the new "Ly Hoang Nam" of Vietnamese tennis. He was once ranked 5th in the world in the U14 age group, according to Universal Tennis Rating.

In March 2025, Tien Anh won the men's singles and men's doubles events at the ATF tournament in Binh Duong .
