Linking raw material areas to develop OCOP products

Tien Phuoc is currently a commune with many OCOP products invested and produced by entities from the people's own agricultural products. Linking raw material areas from the people to the OCOP product entities creates sustainability for the production value chain.

Linking agricultural product consumption

At this time, Tien Phuoc is in the season of ripe longan in the gardens. When the longan season comes, Tien Phuoc farmers have an additional source of income from cooperating with Phuoc Tuyen Agricultural Services, Processing and General Trading Cooperative to sell longan fruit as raw materials for processing the product "Longan Wine" that meets 4-star OCOP standards.

Mr. Vo Van An (in Tra Lai village) has a garden with dozens of longan trees and is currently supplying raw materials to Phuoc Tuyen Agricultural Services, Processing and General Trading Cooperative. This season, the fruit is not as abundant as in previous years, but thanks to proper care according to the cooperative's instructions, there are still fruits to supply.

In addition to selling longan fruit, Mr. An can increase his income by picking fruit from gardeners for the cooperative. He said: "The cooperative purchases longan fruit from farmers, which helps us feel secure about the output of the product. The cooperative also carefully guides the care of longan trees to produce quality fruit, so the longan fruit meets organic and clean standards for the cooperative to produce longan wine."

Or like Mr. Ngo Minh Hoa (in Tra Lai village) has a garden of more than 1 hectare, growing many types of trees such as mangosteen, tangerine, banana, and longan. Of which, there are currently about 150 longan trees, whose products are purchased by Phuoc Tuyen Agricultural Services, Processing and General Trading Cooperative, so Mr. Hoa does not worry about "good harvest, low price, good price, bad harvest".

He shared: "With the guidance of the cooperative, I take good care of the plants in an organic way. The fruit crops in the garden alternate, so each year I bring in an income of more than 100 million VND for my family after deducting expenses."

Double benefit

Before Phuoc Tuyen Agricultural Services, Processing and General Trading Cooperative researched and processed longan wine products to achieve 4-star OCOP certification, longan fruit was mainly sold to traders by local people. Consumers could eat the fruit when it was still fresh, or process it into snacks such as longan salad, or soak it into fermented drinks...

Since Phuoc Tuyen Agricultural Services, Processing and General Trading Cooperative linked raw material areas and guided people in organic care of longan trees, Tien Phuoc farmers have had a more stable outlet for longan fruit.

According to Mr. Tong Phuoc Thuan, representative of Phuoc Tuyen Agricultural Services, Processing and General Trading Cooperative, the product "Lon Bon Wine" is processed by manual methods, produced according to the season of Lon Bon fruit. Linking raw material areas has helped the cooperative to proactively source raw materials to produce products, maintaining product quality to supply to the market.

Mr. Thuan said: "The cooperative is linking with 150 households with a total area of about 15 hectares, the average annual output is about 20 tons of longan, ensuring the production of "Longan Wine" products to supply the market. When implementing the linkage chain, people take care of the longan garden according to technical standards, using completely organic fertilizers, so the quality of longan fruit is guaranteed."

With the advantage of a land suitable for many high-quality crops, along with active support in policies to encourage the development of garden and farm economies in recent times, Tien Phuoc people continue to persevere in developing garden and farm economies.

The total area of fruit trees in the commune is 1,748 hectares, of which 109 hectares are longan trees. Along with that is the investment of cooperatives in linking with people to create quality OCOP products from native fruit trees, helping the chain to become more and more sustainable.

Mr. Doan Van Cong, Vice Chairman of Tien Phuoc Commune People's Committee said: "The locality has focused strongly on garden economy in recent times, many households have risen to become rich from garden economy, farm economy and become typical models in the movement to build clean houses, beautiful gardens, and high economic efficiency. Cooperatives have also strongly participated in linking with farmers, creating quality OCOP products, thereby helping farmers feel more secure in gardening."
