(QBĐT) - Recently, a number of water pipes have been continuously broken, disrupting the supply of clean water and affecting the lives of hundreds of households in communes and wards in Dong Hoi City.
In early September, on Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Dong Hai Ward, a water pipe burst disrupted the daily lives of several households. The burst pipe caused water to overflow onto the sidewalk and onto the street, causing localized flooding of a section of the street.
The owner of Thanh Tam Coffee Shop in Dong Hai Ward said: “After the water pipe burst, customers called Quang Binh Water Supply Joint Stock Company to handle the problem. The water outage only lasted 4 hours, but the process of fixing the problem took nearly 4 days. Because the broken water pipe is located in front of the shop, repairing the pipe also affected business operations, but the company tried to fix it, so we also supported them to complete it soon.”
Previously, several pipelines on Ly Thai To Street, Dong Son Ward and the pipeline from Phu Vinh Water Plant to Thuan Phong Village, Thuan Duc Commune were continuously broken, causing water shortages for many households. Some local residents said that recently, water shortages due to broken water pipes have occurred frequently, affecting the daily lives of hundreds of households.
Explaining this situation, Director of Quang Binh Water Supply Joint Stock Company Nguyen Van Dung said: In recent years, the unit has continuously implemented activities to improve the quality of water supply services in the area, such as: Replacing old, poor quality water supply pipes; adjusting technology at the factory to improve the quality of water after treatment; implementing digital transformation in the enterprise, contributing to improving management efficiency and usefully connecting water users with water supply units... However, during the operation, there have still been unfortunate incidents that have disrupted people's water use, such as the recent water pipe burst on Ly Thuong Kiet Street, passing through Dong Hai Ward. The reason is that this pipeline is located close to the roots of ancient trees, after a period of time the tree roots have grown strongly and compressed, causing the pipe to burst.
In addition, during the peak summer season, Hai Thanh Water Plant had to limit its exploitation level from 5,000m3 /day and night to 2,000m3 /day and night due to low water levels in Bau Tro Lake, and the risk of saltwater intrusion from the sea was very high. Therefore, to ensure sufficient water supply for the system, Phu Vinh Water Plant had to increase its exploitation capacity, leading to operating pressure at the plant as well as some upstream pipelines of the plant having to constantly bear high pressure (typically the D250mm pipelines on Ly Thai To Street; D250, 200mm pipelines from Phu Vinh Water Plant to Thuan Phong village, Thuan Duc commune). This is the main cause of pipeline incidents in Dong Son ward and Thuan Duc commune in recent times.
During incidents involving water supply pipes, Quang Binh Water Supply Joint Stock Company promptly informed water users about the incident situation and estimated repair time through the company's zalo portal. Currently, in Dong Hoi City, over 90% of water users connect to this zalo portal to receive information from the water supply unit. This is the company's official information page to connect with customers on the zalo application so that both parties can receive useful information in the process of providing and using clean water services, such as: Looking up monthly water bills, viewing meter reading schedules, water consumption history, water cut-off and opening notifications, receiving feedback from customers... In addition, the company also coordinates with information channels of villages and residential groups to inform people.
The occurrence of pipeline incidents not only disrupts the water supply to the people but also causes the water supply unit to lose a large amount of water. Therefore, the company is currently implementing many solutions to minimize water supply pipeline ruptures. In the immediate future, the company is constructing the D400mm water supply pipeline project from Phu Vinh Water Plant to Loc Dai Market (phase 1), expected to be completed by the end of 2025. When the project is completed, it will basically regulate the entire water supply network for the city without having to operate under too high pressure as in the past. At the same time, the unit has a plan to balance annual funding to gradually replace old pipelines that do not ensure quality, relocate water supply pipelines that are not in accordance with the current planning to limit the risk of pipe rupture...
“To better implement water supply services in general, and activities to limit water supply interruptions due to pipeline failures in particular, Quang Binh Water Supply Joint Stock Company hopes to receive more attention from local authorities at all levels in planning, planning adjustment, and urban planning to create conditions for water supply units to limit relocation costs and water supply interruptions. Active coordination between units operating and managing infrastructure works in preventing and handling related situations, and especially the sharing of people in unexpected pipeline rupture situations,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Dung.
In Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Water Supply Joint Stock Company is currently providing clean water services to about 33,000 households out of a total of 71,000 households in the whole province, supplied from two water plants Phu Vinh and Hai Thanh with a total actual average exploitation capacity of about 30,000m3 /day and night. |
