Thus, compared to 2024, the average score of the Competency Assessment exam in 2025 is about 2.3 points higher (78.8 compared to 76.5). This shows that the exam results in 2025 tend to increase slightly, up about 2-3 points compared to the same period last year.
The top scorer of this year’s exam is Nguyen Duy Phong from Chuong My A High School, Hanoi, with 130/150 points, 1 point higher than last year’s top scorer. Not only that, Phong is also in the top 4 of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology’s thinking assessment exam this year.
The competency assessment test consists of three parts, the compulsory part is Mathematics and Data Processing (50 questions, 75 minutes), Literature - Language (50 questions, 60 minutes). The optional part is Science or English (50 questions, 60 minutes). Of which, Phong scored 48 points in Mathematics and Data Processing, 46 points in Literature - Language and 38 points in Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
Phong started reviewing his ability assessment in January. The male student did not study at a center or had to struggle to find out because the school had a group study model with close supervision from teachers.

Phong said the class was divided into two large groups, corresponding to two Science lesson options: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, Chemistry, History. In addition to the time spent with teachers, the groups studied on their own and supported each other. Phong reviewed with his friends in the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology groups. The male student rated this way of studying as effective, helping him remember knowledge for a long time.
Literature is the subject that boys find the most challenging. Phong does quite well on group questions and paragraph questions, but often loses points on true/false and word classification questions. "Therefore, I put a lot of effort into this part when practicing," Phong said.
In the near future, Duy Phong said he will try to complete the high school graduation exam well, to end 12 years of high school with good results. The male student will apply for admission to the Automation major at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Principal of Chuong My A High School, said that the school's two consecutive years of having top students in the competency assessment exam partly comes from promoting the self-study movement of students, along with the attention of teachers and families. "The school will replicate the model and method of supporting students in self-study," he said.
