A fighter jet in service with the Indian Air Force
The Indian Air Force has so far participated in joint exercises in Australia and the UK. Tarang Shakti is not only the largest air force exercise ever for India but also the first joint air exercise by India with multiple other countries in India, all of which are NATO members.
In today’s modern world, joint military exercises have always been one of the most accurate tests of the level of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between countries and partners in politics, military, defense and security. This joint air exercise in India has therefore made one Indian partner excited and another concerned.
For the parties involved in Tarang Shakti, there are only single and double benefits. Such military and defense cooperation helps India and NATO members build and strengthen their ability to coordinate actions when they want to act together and especially help each other to act militarily and security in geographically distant areas. The UK, France, Germany and Spain all aim at the Indo-Pacific region, all need partners in this region to act as gateways and springboards, support and legitimacy to approach this region. In that aspect, India is one of their most ideal partners. Cooperation with India helps them not to be left behind, and even less left out, in matters of having a stake in developments in the region.
They help India reach out to Europe, increase its influence in many aspects in Europe and create a counterweight to India's relations with other partners, especially the US, Russia and China.
